The phelps 'church' (
Westboro Babtist Church) is made up mostly of Phelps' children, grandchildren and in-laws. All of their protests are based on religious grounds, and show just how easy religion can be subverted when otherwise rational people choose to turn off their brains.
As for the laws that have already passed and are being considered.. most legal analysts concur that they will be overturned if challanged, on constitutional grounds. How you feel about that I guess depends on how valuable you hold the concepts of freedom of speech and right to assembly.
