I really like it. I'm looking forward to seeing them. The reviews are going crazy for it. Like most, the the radiator is kind of the one flaw, but I think the cooling and hopefully performance would make up for it. Wow, that is small gas tank though. I wonder what kind of mileage you will be able to get per tank. I think Triumph is going to come in late to the 11/1200 cc motor upgrade. I think they will, it's just when.

I really like this new Scout and think they have done a great job integrating the radiator into the frame. While the looks aren't quite what an air cooled bike would be you have to move with the times. Certainly think their treatment of the radiator is better than on the Thunderbirds.

I can't afford one but really want one. I think they look amazing. Sure I would have to change things like the bars and those horrid looking mufflers.

IF I could retro-fit a factory 11/1200 engine to my America,I would be SO happy! As long as it looks the same as our present motors .

Ya know, it COULD happen! For two reasons. I've had the best year ever in my carpentry business AND the wife's health is better this year. The Ark rally always was my favorite. If'n there's room, I MIGHT be able to make it. If I do, it'll be a last minute decision.

I just got back from Sturgis. Spent a lot to time riding a looking at Indian. 100HP! Liquid cooling lets your rev higher and last longer. It will attract the more technical riders who are looking at the present and future. I think they are going to sell a ton of them.
IMHO it is worth 3k more than a Speedmaster every day. In the power department, it will simply spank our little bikes.
Up close and personal all the Indians attention to detail, paint quality, and performance are selling folks. The Sturgis dealer was just steady selling bikes every single day. They had test rides at the dealership by the highway with lines.
Victory and Indian had all the line on display at Buffalo Chip with HD. They had a full block of display on Lazelle Street with Victory and Indian side by side with displays, presentations, Police rodeo riders, and tons of stuff to buy.
The Indian displays were jammed with folks. Most wearing the bar and shield as they literally drooled on the Indian fit and finish.
There is big change coming in market share. Polaris is bringing it.

Funny thing is, there have been some complaints about paint quality. Don't see it on mine. Maybe the really early ones? (Mine is #6400)And there have been some issues with the leather bag setup, like mine. Still, fit and finish is top notch. Although, I think HD has some darn nice paint packages also.

There will be some little things. Once the public starts to work out the kinks. I have not noted a bit of problem with paint on the Indians I have seen. Are they peeling, fading?
I know there was some cracked leather they took care of.

Now this is so much more my cup of tea than those Chiefs. Love the look, though does remind me of another bike from a rival brand.......
It's got a "V-Rodish" look to it and maybe a bit of Hyosung 650.But is better looking than both of those IMO.

I just got back from Sturgis as well and got to see this bike up close and in person. I spent a lot of time looking it over and I wanted to like it but I was really disappointed by the Scout. It is just not what I was hoping for. The technical specs look awesome on paper but that bike is ugly in person. Like the Triumph Commander, the big radiator sticking out of the front kills it for me. The matte/graphite colored frame looks cheap in my opinion and the motor is no where near as attractive as the Thunderstroke. Seeing the Scout next to any of the Chiefs left a lot to be desired in the fit and finish department as well. I know that Polaris is targeting Harley riders with the Indian line, which I feel the Chiefs do a good job of competing but the guys who want a Sportser/Dyna/Softail aren't going to be swayed by that Scout.

i think the new Victory's will be more competition to the HD crowd in that arena. The 1700 (106) Gunner, looks like a really nice bike.

The thing is, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, is all motorcycle companies want to steal customers away from Harley. That is the reason Polaris bought Indian, to have the name and the brand to be able to do it because Victory has never really taken off with Americans. Let's face it, the vast majority of Harley customers don't care about performance numbers, technical specs,or magazine reviews, they want a Harley because it's a "Harley" and it has that prestige about it. The only other brands that can compete with the "prestige" or "mystique" of Harley are Triumph and Indian. I just don't get these marketing guys. If you want to steal Harley customers then that means that you need your motorcycle to do everything a Harley does and more. Unfortunately in the U.S. that means you have to have an air cooled motorcycle that has superior styling and performance to the Harley models that you are targeting. The Thunderbird has never really taken off because it looks like a Japanese cruiser, radiator and all, the restyled LT and Commander look a lot better but, again Americans hate that radiator. I fear the Scout is in for the same fate.

I've not seen the Scout in the real world and my first reaction was, meh. The more I look at the pictures the more I don't like it. I'm not sure what everyone's clamoring about. Maybe the 100hp that's tossed around. But to me the engine looks like is was hatched from a Honda Interceptor (which is a great bike ) but the Scout's appearance just does not ring Indian to me Maybe when I get a chance to see it, sit on one I might change my mind. Hopefully it get's 65 mpg so you don't have to stop every hour and gas up the 3 gallon tank

The cruiser market does like the air cooled look. But the V-rod line still sells as does the Honda line. The Scout will sell a lot of bikes. I think the 111 bikes are much more stylish but now you have an entry level bike. You don't have to get the new rider off a Sportster, onto a Chief. You already have them. Eventually liquid will be the way it all goes. We just need to make better looking radiators.
100 HP goes a long way in the thump department. I still think Triumph missed the boat not making our bikes 60 or 70 CID with some HP to go with it. People would have paid that extra 2 grand for it.
I also think that was a redirected Victory motor.

The Victory Core Concept released in 2009. Victory Gunner released 2014 Victory Judge Motorcycle I think its a Victory motorcycle with a radiator. But I like it. It looks like a brand new motorcycle with a motor never seen before with a one up bobber that gives you HP and torque before you stage it. The more I look at this bike the more I think its going to sell a lot of bikes to the under 40 folks.

I am in over 50 crowd and I am about 75% likely to buy one. Looks to be a fun bike. I just have to get the time to shoot over to Madison for a test ride.

Wait now, Ian. Wouldn't this also mean that those "things" The Walrus and his son and along with every other "Chopper" builder on the planet who makes those "things" to sell to people with more money than sense, doesn't make a "Chopper" EITHER because they're "built that way"???
Okay, it appears what your're TRYIN' to say here is that any factory-made motorcycle in a "Bobber-STYLE" "isn't really a Bobber simply because some guy after purchasing a stock motorcycle didn't hack off the fenders HIMSELF once he got it home", RIGHT?!
(...sorry, but this seems merely a matter of "semantics" here, if ya ask me!)
(...BTW...haven't we had this same conversation YEARS ago???...some things never change, huh!)

A bobber is a stock bike that has been bobbed not one off the line looking that way and the same with a chopper, if it was built that way it is not a chopper. A chopper is a stock bike that has been chopped.

Yeah, so in essence I was right, huh?! You're still stuck on the idea that the suffix "-style" should ALWAYS be added to a particular and recognized "style" of motorcycle, vis-a-vis(sorry for the French here ) a "Chopper" or "Bobber" that's NOT been hacked-on by the owner himself, RIGHT?! (...well, after all these years I gotta say I STILL disagree with ya about this here...but of course, this was NEVER the ONLY thing we ever disagreed upon, huh ol' buddy?!)

In the case of OCC, West Coast Choppers, etc... I would call those customs. Something like the Scout would just be a production motorcycle, nothing more. If it was made with short fenders then it was made with short fenders and is still just a production motorcycle.
I come from a background where I and my friends were actually bobbing and chopping bikes I rode my red chopper for over 20 years. I have been looking at used frames and engines on Ebay and watching prices. I think I want a modern 360º Triumph engine and chop a stock frame. Then put some Amal carbs I have left over from a Norton 850 Commando I restored for someone on it. I think I will cut it and stretch the neck a little for clearance for the springer and use an HD steering head to make fitting the front end I want easier. When finished that would be a chopper.

Ian, first, the word "Custom" isn't NEARLY descriptive enough in order to register in the minds of most people a particular "style" of a "custom motorcycle". And hence, the very reason it would be only logical to use the MORE descriptive term "Chopper" in order to describe the kind of motorcycle which features a raked-out front end and long long forks...and which always handle SO freakin' well out there on the road! Secondly, I would say that at least the FRONT fender of this new Indian Scout is in the "style" of what returning WWII G.I.s would often do to the front fenders of their H-Ds and Indians back in the day, though I WILL agree with ya that THAT might be only a minor styling cue on this machine.

Just because they ripped off the name doesn't make it correct usage. That's like saying since they use 1930s tech that is the only way to make a bike.

1937 tech, stop trying to make them look old. Your post is too general so one could think the tech goes all the way back to 1931.
Then again the 790 from Triumph is seriously familiar to the Honda CB500T (1975) motor with a 180/540 motor to smooth it out rather than the 360.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.
