I did not have a pic to post but here is a pic of another members, exact same thing only it will have a TTP lable on it and is called a "Fire Starter" http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=0#Post624656I have been chasing an issue with my bike failing in the real wet, not sure if it was the CDI but i noticed the writing that Z put on that other post, was never sure of the procom after allot of reading (and the reading Marty has done) so i was curious about this Ignitech. I looked into it with them and then started asking about tunes. They than advised me that TTP would be picking this unit up for distribution and putting their own tunes in it. So i went there. They just received them in stock, not even on their web site yet (by the way the factory ignitech tune will work apparently (see post above) but i wanted the benfit of TTP stage 1 tuning. Mike was real decent and agreed to sell both marty and I one, Marty got the stage 2. So we have the first two sold by TTP. Review Comes in a nice box, simple plug and play unit, comes with the extention plug. The plug is about 11" or so long, without messing with the harness to much and turning the oem plug down on the spine the unit will mount very easily under most seats, on the lower spine away from the engine and a few other spots on the bike. Bike fired right up. First thing i noticed was the tone of my exhaust, it had changed to a more "full" note and less raspy (i have bub pipes) rpm held a steady 1150 and does/has not dipped at all. Burping the throttle results in crisp rpm increase and quick return to idle. Slight burping of exhaust note gone. On the road i noticed that less efforts were required (throttle/clutch) to get her out of the hole and the bike ran throuogh the gears smooth with a more linear feel to the rpm thoughout them. I had a slight buzz (flatspot) at 3500 rpm that seems to have gone. Where i noticed the most "feeling change" was on the hi-way above 4k rpm, the bike went from 120 kph to 150 allot smoother then it has ever done before and just seemed more effortless. No popping on decel (i only had very very slight gurggling). Still a bit early, but overall i am very happy with this unit. I like where it mounts and so far i like the way it performs. Its just nice to have another alternative. Procom will need to watch out for this unit i am thinkin.

Thanks for the review Mike. Glad to see Triumph Twin Power will be selling these as new units. I noticed the ones on their website for sale now are used. New is much better.

Right on, Mike... glad it's working out. Interesting what you report about the exhaust characteristics.

I got mine on and its working great.Mike is right about the exhaust note as well.It seems a big improvement over stock with smother and greater power increases.I'm not sure that I needed a new igniter, but weather I did or not, this is a bonus.

Very interesting. I just bought a Pro Com last October but I wouldn't be opposed to switching over. Keep the reviews coming, you guys definitely have my interest peaked. One question, does Pieman raise the rev limiter on this when he remaps it?

raises them 500 rpm, and so far i really like it, turn the key a little choke and fires up before she turns over a complete rotation,
cost was 300 US i believe plus shipping.

Off topic but I noticed your post...I have a 2006 speedmaster...did you ever look at the two small wires that attach to the front of the coils...my bike would stop running in real wet weather...I pulled those wires and they were full of water...blew on them to dry them out...bike started and ran...I put dielectric grease on them and never had a problem after that

Yup, even built a shroud of plastic around them sort of a shield to help as well, but on a recent trip i had occassion to go through a good spell of rain and she kep running, not saying for sure it was the cdi, but it is pointing in that direction. Happy with the new one.

So, Heres my update. The unit did NOT arrive on the 11th as the order confirmation said. I went back and forth by email with Carlos at Triumph Performance USA. Come to find out the link here links to the British site, but their order page link links to TPUSA in Lomita Calif. Carlos told me I had to send him MY ICU and I guess they reprogram it and send it back. I'm still baffled why I received a confirmation that told me I'd receive it on 9/11. Sooo On Saturday I mailed mine to Carlos at TPUSA, express 2 day mail to be delivered on Monday . Come Monday TPUSA is closed so my ICU never got delivered. I track it on the web site which says it will be re delivered the next business day, which would be Tuesday, only it wasn't Today is Saturday and as far as I'm able to tell from the tracking website the damn thing is on a shelf in the post office. I actually called the Post Office on Thursady and requested it be redelivered but cannot t tell if has been or not . I left 2 messages for Carlos but no call back. At this point I expect the ICU wil be returned to me as undeliverable and oh yeah what about my $240.00 Who the heck knows. What a frustrating expreience I'll be so happy if I ever finally get it. I'll keep you posted
Tex

So, Heres my update...Tex
Do you understand that the TTP Fire Starter igniter & a TPUSA/TTP reprogrammed OEM Gill igniter are two different products?

Yes I understand that. I finally got my reprogrammed unit back yesterday Thursday 9/25. Put it on and had a little ride around the hood . The most obvious thing I noticed was , it seems quieter, Hmmm not what I expected. This weekend I'll do a real shakedown cruise and see how it runs on the open road at speed over time.

Yes lets just be clear that you did not order direct through TTP and you did not buy a firestarter. So others do not get the wrong impression, totally seperate dealing.

I have now done well over a 1000miles with my stage1 firestarter and find the extra revs to 8500 really useful, also the horrendous start up backfire that I think was the cause of a split air box has totally vanished plus better acceleration and top end.Ordered here in England on a Tuesday, delivered on the Thursday. Can't get better than that so a big thumbs up to Mike at TTP.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but does anyone have advice/experience/pictures on how/where to install the firestarter? I like the idea of having under the seat, but it interferes with access to the air filter.
Thanks.

I don't know the reach but how about under the side cover by the solenoid, or ditch the air box.

The cable is long enough to go under the seat and you will have plenty of access to replace or clean your air filter. I ran the cable and ty-wraped it to the backbone and placed it under the seat with no issues. If I read this yesterday I could have taken a picture for you as I just serviced my air cleaner. The TTP Fire Starter will not disappoint and you will be happy with the results.

Yeah, it reaches fine and I tied the cable to the backbone. My concern was with anchoring it somehow to keep it from vibrating & moving around under the seat.

i can't remember how that box fit in there again (got rid of it) but drill two small wholes in the top of the box the space of the CDI, then route zip ties through the two holes and over top of the CDI to secure, you could also put small piece of foam or anything else under it if you want against the box but there is tons of room under there for that little box. Great unit to.

If your concern is with it rattling around under the seat I guess you could use some Velcro to secure it. You can buy some Velcro pads that are close in size to the unit. I thought about doing this but haven't.

I installed my 865 Option 2 Fire Starter yesterday. No serious performance testing yet, however it fired right up, runs strong & smooth, no decel popping. It is at least as good as the TTP reprogrammed Gill OEM that it replaced, & most likely better. Here are some pics: Igniter is located on top of BC AEK storage box, under the seat. In my situation I found it best to route the connector to the starboard side of the frame (OEM is on the port side).: Here's an overhead view: CDI on storage box, secured with 3M loc: Close up of connector, with rubber pad between connector & frame: Another overhead view of CDI from the other side: View of connector with tank installed: There isn't as much room under the tank on the starboard side, however the supplied connector cable length wasn't long enough to optimally position the CDI where I wanted it if the connector was located on the port side. Bottom line, nice unit, however a bit longer cable length would have been appreciated for my install.

I did mine exactly the same.No issues and it don't move.I did have a small issue with tach tho.Cleaned all connections and it works like new. Guess I'm a dielectric grease junkie.
