http://youtu.be/QMDFRZvcq3Uanyone else have this same noise? i've been told it could be the sprag clutch but i thought the sprag was only directly related starting the bike. any of you master mechanics have any input?

When the starter is activated the sprag clutch connects it to the crankshaft (simply speaking) turning it. When the engine starts, the crank now turns faster than the starter so the sprag slips allowing the starter motor to stop and not be ruined by spinning out of control. The sprag usually acts up when it slips all the time not allowing the engine to start (starter simply spins).
This sounds like a clutch slipping slightly. What oil are you using in the engine? How many miles on the clutch? You may have to pull the side cover and take a look. You will loose some oil though.
It also sounds like your back tire chirping on the pavement. Does it do it while the bike is running?

Didn't one of our Brothers from down under just go through this (screech at takeoff) and it turned out his chain and sprockets were worn out? I'm horrible with names, a personal failing, or I could probably pull up a link. Found it: web page ]Link[/url]

I get that same noise but only occasionally. I usually get it on cool days on takeoff from a dead stop before the bike is warmed up. I've found that if I take it easy on takeoffs at least until it's warmed up, then I don't hear it. I don't get it repeatedly like you do in the video; my bike would usually do it once early in a ride and then not do it again.
I've always assumed it was clutch, and that it has something to do with the engine and oil getting warmed up. But i read the other thread about it possibly being chain-related. Sorry i dont have any helpful info for you...just noting that i hear the same thing occasionally. Are you hearing it all the time on takeoffs?

My neighbor has the same problem with his '03 Road King. HIs is belt drive of course, so that would also suggest clutch?
