I purchased some 48 inch LED tube lights to replace the Fluorescent lights I have in the garage. These LED lights are pretty much plug-n-play, you just have to take the ballast out of the circuit and wire one end of the fixture directly to AC. The LED tube lights only use 18 Watts, and have an estimated life of 50,000 hours. The light output compared to the fluorescent tubes is absolutely brilliant, and just a huge improvement. Obviously they cost more, with each LED tube costing about $21.60. If they last anywhere near their estimated life then I will never have to replace them. You can check them out at http://www.shopgreentek.com

Sounds interesting. I would like to see the end results once you have them on in your shop. I am about to install the lights in my new shop and and very interested.

That's 5.7 years of operation if you never turn them off. That is amazing albeit the death nail of the business. You could put these things in your will.

Well, things break down, either by accident or design.
And I read that the light output fades a bit over time.
Even though, most stores here are slowly getting rid of fluorescents (bulbs or tubes) and stacking LEDs now. I am also slowly replacing my bulbs with LEDs in the house. I like them.
Even got one in my America's headlight.

I don't mind going to LED's for home use but HATED the CFLs and never bought one... totally skipped that phase.

+1 Mercury indeed.
I bought 4 of those 48 inch LED tube light tubes. (Thanks to Tom for piggybacking my order on his order) Have 4 Fluorescent light fixtures in me garage. Installed two tubes in one fixture and am waiting for the wife to return to see if she wants a set in the fixture over the washer/dryer. Daytime viewing there is a negligible difference in lumens. in the dark, wow. Cutting out the ballast alone, is a huge heat savings.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen those yet. Once they came out with the daylight spectrum, I began switching over to LED in earnest. 90% of the house done and 100% of the interior of the RV. The big holdout in the house is that I can only find 90w equivalent in standard bulb size and I like my reading lights brighter. So I've still got a few 150w spaghetti bulbs.
