It was Harley demo day today in our little town. And today my sweetheart and I took to riding some geezer-glides plus their factory trike. The 88 cu. in. hogs were comfortable and had great suspension but failed to impress me considering the $$ factor. Then, just for sh!ts and giggles we took out the HD trike which left me totally cold yet amazed at how difficult it was to handle. I now have a new and deep appreciation for those who ride that particular configuration... it ain't easy. But cha know, we had fun riding those machines, especially considering someone else paid for the gas!! Would I buy one? If I had the money, yes I would but only for long distant touring. For snorting around the mountain road where I live, I'll stick with my good ol' Trumpet!

There's a certain pattern in the color here .... admit it, you tried it because of the colour, right?
PS. I am mixing spelling to try and please both sides....

Never thought about that aspect of a trike. Yes handles different, forget leaning, outside wheel wants to lift up, and still: difficult? That little tid bit really drives home your comment about the ride leaving you cold. But then again, most anything you ride in the wind might leave you cold due to that jimmy buffet changes in latitudes thang. The great white north and such.

You have to pull hard on the bars to get the thing to turn... REALLY hard, especially at speed. Felt weird.

We did a demo on a trike a few years back. The "handling" completely freaked me out! I was certain there was something wrong that required that much rider input to steer. I did NOT like it - and it had nothing to be with being a Harley!

Keith if you want three wheels under you for the comfort and stability try our home grown BRP Can Am. Steers more like a snowmobile its not a motocycle but it is fun to ride.

Most dealers have a demo model you can ride. They'll do a short instruction needed to aquaint you on how it operates.
As long as we agree they are not a motorcycle but a different mode of transportation they can be fun. Some friends who ride Triumph are so hung up on the two wheels on the ground they wouldn't even do a demo.

Frank... I know the darkside is strong and you make an almost irresistible case but have you seen my bike lately? 56,000 amazingly happy kms and she looks better every day. Is there love on the darkside, Frank?

Yeah, I guess I did come across as being a bit nonchalant about the whole thing. I mean, they ARE bikes.

curiosity gets the best of all of us at some time. I have riden more than one Harley trying to figure out the attraction, or what was wrong with it. Either way I came up with no love or joy for them. Now I do have a classic Harley. One of the early shovel heads. It will be a nice to look at when I am done and fun to take to shows. By no means will it be a daily rider or a trip taker.

I owned a 1,000cc 1974 AMF XLH sportster, which got me on a first name basis with a lot of Harley mechanics from the local dealership. When it wasn't broken down it did get a lot of attention.Only half a dozen or so would get here a year in those days.So they got noticed. Now Harleys are everywhere here, and to be fair they are reliable bikes When my mate on his,and I ride together now my Triumph gets the attention,[from Geezers!!! ].I've ridden his Harley and I prefer my bike, although I'd like his 1430cc power I admit.

I have nearly 44,000 happily ridden miles on my 2003 Speedmaster, and my best friend has a 2002 Night Train. One day last summer when we were out riding I bumped into a girl I went to high school with who is still smoking hot and she wanted me to take her for a ride. Unfortunately I only had my solo seat on so me and my buddy switched bikes and I rode her around on his Night Train. Long story short we switched bikes for about four hours so I got a pretty feel for riding a Harley. The first thing I noticed was that the torque difference was pretty much canceled out by the extra 120 or so pounds extra that the Night Train weighs. The second thing was that the handling sucked compared to my Speedmaster. After four hours I couldn't wait to get back on my Triumph.

She actually is more into my Triumph because her dad used to have one when she was little.
