The first Naval Aviator, and he wasn't even in the Navy.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

He was the first in a lot of fields. An unsung hero - except in his hometown.
Now you've got me wondering where I recently read so much about him, Newt. One of the moto-mags?

Notice he had no college debt.

I knew some about the aircraft company bearing his name. Thanks for mentioning him, had a great time on Wiki learning.

OK, found the story - finally.
June 2014 issue of Motorcyclist Magazine. A Man of Wings & Wheels. Glenn Curtiss, Multifaceted Motorcycling Pioneer.
A good read and some good pics if you get the magazine. I wasn't able to find an on-line link to it. Maybe someone else will have better luck or maybe it'll take a while for the June issue to come online.

I knew a little about him but that is a fascinating read about a guy that just kept going to the end.
Is anything left of Opa-locka, Florida (Moorish city) ? Had I heard about it I might have gone looking a couple years ago when there.

3 or 4 years ago we rode down to the museum as part of the NorEast Rally. It is a fantastic place to visit. After looking at the exhibits and seeing the history you can really appreciate the risk taking and giant accomplishments that occurred in that era. You can get a taste at the museum web page. ==>www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org

Wasn't it Curtis who first figured out you can hinge control panels to control an aeroplane instead of bending the pee out of the wings?
