This is an OK thing guys. When it was time to purchase a new bike(after 20 years) my criteria was 1)it had to be carburated 2)had to have a chain 3)had to have a rich history 4)could NOT be a replica of an existing design and 5)easiliy hot roddable.
I remember ape hangars on old Triumphs and Rat Fink drawings of old Triumphs. HDs reminded me of Cop bikes.
You can't chop, bob, hack apart and gut HDs because they cost too much. Everybody owns them and they are not original. For under $500 my America will smoke the 1/4 mile under 13 seconds. While at a local bike night cruise(150+ bikes) I won a trophy for top cruiser. 99% of the bikes were HDs but they chose my bike. Triumphs command respect. Its not always about power like most folks say. Its about a sense of belonging and not feeling like an outsider. HD riders are like that. Too many movies I guess. I don't ride in big packs and I don't feel comfortable winning trophies.
Triumphs are Triumphs.
Don't fault him for buying the HD. For he will be the old guy someday telling some young kid on a Triumph at a gas station that he owned a Triumph..with a sparkle in his eye.
