Trying to find some good overpants. What I need is just something that I can easily put on and take off for my rides to work (I have to wear dockers and nice shirt to work). I want to find something not bulky, but safe.
Yesterday, I tried on a pair of the Triumph Explorer pants but they seemd very bulky to me. The thigh pads seemed very uncomfortable.
Besides chaps, any other suggestions?

I wear my leather jeans and toss my work pants into a rucksack and change when I get there.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

That may be the routhe that I end up going. Although, yesterday I stopped at Love's leaters (a huge leather shop in Vancouver, WA) and found some leather overpants that I really liked. They zipped up almost the entires side. They were thick lleather, but not too bulky even though they were double layered in the hips, thighs and knees. Unfortunately they didnt have my size at the moment. $179, but seemed to be worth it.
BTW.. I am not sure why my original post double posted. one of those things I guess.

Hey Soren,
"Carhart" makes Bib overalls. They are heavy duty, not leather but lighter than leather and durable. They are also making different colors besides their ugly brown.
Tractor Supply carries them, Sporting goods stores and sometimes Wally World.
Or like I do sometime I wear my Rain pants. They break the wind and keep the road dirt off the Dockers!

I wear Carhartt (two Ts) all the time. My draggin jeans should be here today or tomorrow... The Carhartts are good, real tough and you can get them in double knee, but no real padding.

Soren - I just bought a pair of these http://www.newenough.com/firstgear_ht_2_overpants_page.htmI've got about and hour and a half saddle time on them and they work as advertised. Easy on and off, designed to be worn over other clothes, waterproof, etc. Comfortable, warm, the liner comes out pretty easily, and they don't look like a clown suit. Maybe worth a look! roadie

Well, I ended up going up to Love's Leathers in Vancouver, WA today and picked up a pair of leather over pants. With it being a nice day out I had to test them out. They are pretty comfortable. I have to get use to a little less traction between the seat and me. they are nice thick leather with double in the rear and knees. They zip up from the top to almost my ankle. Below that point they snap. One of the things I really liked about getting them there, is that they came extra long ready to be hemmed to length and it just so happens that they have a tailor on site that did it in about 10 minutes. The only thing I don't like about them is that they are the super dark ones with chrome zippers and snaps. They had a style with brass zippers and snaps and a not quote so black black. But, they didn't have my size. But these will definitley do. I may need to get a new leather jacket (the one I have now is brown).

Try here: AEROSTITCH DARIEN LIGHT OVERPANT Or here: AEROSTITCH ROADCRAFTER PANT It's the "unleather". And it's worth it. (I suppose.) Lot's of features, lot's of $$$$$$.

One of the things I do like about leather, is that I don't have to worry about them melting to my exhaust.

Hi Soren,
I have the same problem riding to work. I have to wear a formal shirt tie etc. I have found an easy solution that works for me. I bought three pairs of warm-up pants from a sports store. You can get these from any sports store and they fit easily over pants, boots etc. because they have zippered lower legs and elastic tie waists. If you look around, you can find them in pretty much any color and with or without the sports logo's, depending on your preference. I prefer mine in a plain dark color without the fancy logo's etc.
The best part is the price. They are always on sale somewhere, Big 5, Sports Authority or wherever. I don't think I paid more than $20 for any of the pants. You can also get them with or without linings, so some are warmer than others, which is good if you need to have different pairs for different climates. I'm sure if they sold the same thing and called them motorcycle overpants, they would cost $75 a pair instead of $20 a pair.

Welcome to the neighborhood.
Man, that's a great idea! The only downside is they have no protection. My riding pants have padded knees and hips and are a bit waterproof. They cost about as much as 5 pairs of warm-up pants! But during the late spring and summer warm-ups are probably a good idea for my short commute.

I really like the leather overpants that I got. After a month of use, these things are extremely comfortable.

I've started thinking about overpants since lately my work pants have been getting really dirty on my rides in. I think I'll have to give this idea a try. Since I usually just wear jeans/docker type pants most of the time anyway, protection is going to be about the same as what I wear now, so that's not a "major" concern. I have a cheap pair of Firstgear rain over pants, so waterproofing isn't a major concern either. With cooler weather in the not-to-distant future, I would like something with some warmth.
Soren, how have your leather one's been through the summer?
