My question...when riding and rolling on the throttle It's a sudden jerk, I try to roll on slow and its just not a smooth transtion to acceleration. Is this a sign for a new cush drive? chain tension and everything else is fine .

Ah, corporate planned obsolescence. Buy a 900 Thunderbird Sport cush and that jerk reaction you feel in your drive train will go away. It will fit tight and proper, with no slop, and your riding will be good again..

That hesitation, then the sudden load of force on yer tranny and all the other things that are spinning inside the engine can not be a good thing in any shape or form. I'll go for a tight cush over a sloppy one every time.

So I found one on fleabay (I think)...97 thunderbird 900 for 35.00, should I pull the trigger on it? States that it's in 7/10 (looks good in the pic).

So you bought a used cush drive. Like buying used tires... not like new and you won't get the mileage out of it. Rubber breaks down over time as well. I get it though, budgets and all. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Is the cush part number for a standard T Bird the same part number as a T Bird Sport, if so, you should be good to go. You can cross reference part #s on BikeBandit. Gotta agree with Z, that's a lot of money for a used cush, Can't go wrong with new.

Well I think I'll pay the 35 (better than 87 new) and try to pack some leather in there as well. You guys have been very helpful...thanks a bunch.

As the recent Accessories thread on the cush drive links here - FYIW, Triumph P/N for the Tbird Sport cush drive is T2012211. Got it from Hermy's. Put it in my 05 Speedmaster last October. Before that I tried to salvage the old one by adding pieces of rubber cut from an old inner tube, but was never able to get it tight enough and still get the hub back together. The Sport cush fit much easier that I was prepared for, snug but no rubber mallet needed.

Well I installed a cush drive from a 97 900 on my America...fail. Super tight fit and noticed a hefty amount of vibration at low rpm's. Maybe was the wrong one, ordered a new one from Eddy...wasted 35 bucks. The hub never seated properly even with a large amount of force...put old cush in awaiting new one.

I cut up a leather belt and inserted that in place with the old cush drive. That was around 35,000kms ago with no issues. Tightened up the jerky start completely. Cost me an old belt?
Why not give it a try?
