Do not remove the clutch cover yet or pull the starter. Before you do anything, remove the plastic side cover on the right under your seat. You will see the starter solenoid - this is what the starter relay powers up. With the bike in neutral, try placing a screwdriver across the two main leads on the solenoid. If the bike turns over, the starter is good (rarely is the starter the problem) along with the starter gear train. You should then check to see if power is going to the solenoid you just jumpered.
