Besides the blueing of the pipes that I've read about here in the forums, what are the other advantages of removing the air injection system? Are there any?

The AI is used to inject air into the cylinders to ensure unspent fuel gets burned before it hits the atmosphere and is one thing that gets these bikes to pass EPA emmision standards.

However, it also increases the temperature in the cylinders. This will definitely lead to shorter motor life due to burned cylinders, valves, etc.

A properly tuned motor will accomplish the same thing...

Well one additional advantage is that it's easier to get the spark plugs in and out, but Phil's answer is better.

Kit is the easiest option:

I've seen reports of people using sump plugs from Nissan cars, but the kit seemed easier to me!

I bought mine from Jenks Bolts (UK based), but the one linked above looks almost identical. See here for instructions:

What they all said, plus the reason the pipes blue up is the heat, so getting rid of the blueing is really lowering the heat.

seemed to run a little better without the A/I I dont know why maybe helps the mix. well worth the $19 and 20 minutes it took to change over
