That's a good point Eddie, The overwhelming majority of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the victim. And the highest number is for child assaults.
Maybe our current society and destigmatization of the victims is adding to the number of reported assaults where it used to be handled (or mishandled) within the family sphere.
"That no good ^&%$# molested my kid so I kicked his azz, he won't come around any more". That was the kind of thinking that prevailed until just the last few decades.
Of course often the child would be afraid to tell.
