Ron, ya gotta admit Joe's reply to ya here was pretty much spot-on!
I mean, while I TOO wouldn't be adverse to owning a Harley(though make MINE one of those really cool XR1200 models they stopped makin' because the Harley crowd doesn't know anything BUT the whole Cruiser thing) you HAVE to admit one of the MAIN reasons many people purchase 'em is because of that whole "Image" nonsense they press so heavily to the public.
That was a funny observation but the Harley guys I know really don't care about the sport bike and sport tour folks. They know those folks don't get it.
I am actually surprised with how many owners of our bikes are sport tour guys too. The Tiger, Sprint, BMW, etc. are simply something I would never ride. I walk right by them not even noticing they are in the parking lot.
I like cruisers and go fast bikes. Unfortunately my old fat ass cant ride the real fast belly on tank ones anymore.
Now I could go for a HD Road King with a Ultima 130 in it.
Thats 130HP and 135lbs. of torque. Direct swap at 4 grand. Then you sell the OEM motor for 2k.

Reviews are fun to read. If you think V-strom, and FZ are good bikes you could never like a heavy cruiser.
If you gave me any of the 2 above I would keep them just long enough to take the first bids to sell them.
The Ultra is a great bike for short people that like cruisers. Prices don't matter when it comes to taste. BMW and Ducati prices always made me cringe. So much money for such an ugly bike. But people buy them for some unknown reason.
I actually agree 100%. Not his kind of bike as he stated before he even rode it. Kind of like asking someone who owns little 2-seat sports cars to test drive an F-250 Super Duty pickup truck and expect him to like it.

I don't know, my friends BB dyno tuned night train couldn't keep up with me until we were over 100mph, up to then I slowly pulled away from him.
Interesting since I know my bone stock 1200 Sportster will easily out run my TOR equipped America. Same weight same horsepower but 50% more torque.

Of course it will. Thank you, I thought I was the only person to ever argue that. Well, state that, there is no argument.

That same sportster would out run a night train too. It's funny that sportsters are the fast HDs but are noted as girls bikes.

Unfortunately, big dudes don't fit so well on a Sporty. I love the lines but I hate being cramped.

I am not a sportster fan either, the bottom end was always a poor design. Not sure how much that has changed since I have never been inside a modern sportster.

Call me an "Old Geezer" if ya want, but I remember the days when a Sportster was NOT considered a "girl's bike", and it and any Brit 650cc Twin were considered 'Big Bikes'. (...and if I recall correctly, I THINK it was JUST before the average American grew 50 or more pounds overweight by eatin' too freakin' much and the wrong kinda crap!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I remember when 650 and 750 cc bikes were big bikes too, I even remember the first 1000cc bikes and thinking they couldn't possibly get any bigger!

Honda 305 Superhawk. Oh baby, fast bike in its day. Remember Then Came Bronson TV show. Sportsters were cool then.

When I was 18 I tried to talk my dad into fronting me the money for a slightly hopped up 74 650 Yamaha. The only experience I had before was with a Cushman Scooter and a 200 twin Yamaha. I test rode the 650 and I about crapped myself with the power surge! (Dad didn't front me the money, probably a good thing in retrospect).

Yep,me too Dwight. The only HD I ever owned was a 1974 XLH 1,000cc Sportster, and 650s were big bikes. The 750 honda 4 and 900 Kawasaki were enormous.I stood next to a restored 750 honda the other day and it looked like a toy.The 650s now look like 250s and if I sit on a sportster it's like putting a gorilla on a mini bike. The sportster is still cool looking bike IMO but I'm twice the man I was[twice the size I was anyway ]

Eeh! A little more salad and a little less meat and 'taters, and in NO TIME at ALL you'll once again fit on a Sportster, Paul!!! Oh, and a little exercise'll help too, of course! (...btw, yeah, you're right...my 1970 Bonnie looks almost minuscule next to my '02 BA)

Damm Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand? lol So, you find Project Rushmore's flagship is a turd. Yeah, a water cooled turd. imho I find all the Hardleys and Victorys to be just as you described about the 2014 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic. nuff said? Get the tiger! And when you drag parts with the Tiger, you'll be leaning WAY more than 10 degrees!

It's not bad really IF it has forward controls like our 1200 Custom does (it's really my wife's bike I just paid for it). I'm 6'1" and comparing my bike to the Sportster her seat is higher and narrower the bars are lower and narrower but the pegs feel about the same angle from the seat. As a matter of fact I find it far more comfortable than say a standard Bonneville T100 for example mostly because of the forward peg placement on the Sportster.

Harley V-Rod. YUCK!!! Everything about it sucked. I was excited to go on a trip where I rented it, total waste of money.
