And what is a p I wish I understood the English monetary system better could someone take the time to explain it all? Please! Some of the shows I tend to watch come from over there and it puzzles me when someone sez x pounds and In the next breath uses quid instead ? I'm so confused lol

Would you rather have 10 bucks, 10 clams, 10 dollars, or a sawbuck?

P is short for pence as in 5 pence is 5P.It used to be 12 pence to a shilling or "Bob" you had a 10 "Bob" note.2 ten bob notes were a quid or pound so called because long ago there used to be a pound of gold in the english mint for every pound/quid in circulation. That went out the window eons ago though. .A tanner was a sixpence.A Zac was a sixpence in Australia.A tray-bit was a thrupence or three pence.Of course we've gone metric to $ and cents now.The UK went metric too, so then there was New pence but it's long ago I don't think new pence is used anymore. Now it's just pence or P which is the plural for penny. Hope this clears it all up for you

As a "furiner" (but also across the pond) to both let me summarize it for you, Newt. A quid is slang for a pound just like a buck is slang for a dollar. There are 100 pennies (pence or "p") in a pound just like there are 100 cents in the dollar. Just like there are 100 cents in the Euro only we here thought there were 140 and therefore destroyed our economy. (The 140 part was a joke)

You were once a wee (emphasis on "wee") lad? Isn't that a bit like Gordie saying he was once a small boy?

I wonder if it's got anything to do with the Latin, "Quid pro quo"? Maybe that's where the slang quid was taken from.

I was told that there are no $1 Cdn notes, only "Looneys". A friend said that when you go to a Canadian strip joint, you load your Looneys into a machine for scrip, which is given to the stripper, who then can redeem them for currency. True dat?

Exotic dancers here (both male and female) only like five $ notes which still fold nicely. [Well they did until they introduced those PITA polymer bills] At least that is what I have heard.

Don't know... I haven't attending a strip joint in decades. All I know is loonies are heavy. So are toonies. That should have something to do with it, I suppose.
