For my friends across the pond , what's the difference ? And if they are the same why not just use one or the other not both? And what is a p I wish I understood the English monetary system better could someone take the time to explain it all? Please! Some of the shows I tend to watch come from over there and it puzzles me when someone sez x pounds and In the next breath uses quid instead ? I'm so confused lol
P is short for pence as in 5 pence is 5P.It used to be 12 pence to a shilling or "Bob" you had a 10 "Bob" note.2 ten bob notes were a quid or pound so called because long ago there used to be a pound of gold in the english mint for every pound/quid in circulation. That went out the window eons ago though. .A tanner was a sixpence.A Zac was a sixpence in Australia.A tray-bit was a thrupence or three pence.Of course we've gone metric to $ and cents now.The UK went metric too, so then there was New pence but it's long ago I don't think new pence is used anymore. Now it's just pence or P which is the plural for penny. Hope this clears it all up for you
