What is the best way to get the carbs separated to get the carb brace over the aluminum spacer? Do the carbs have to be separated? The aluminum spacer has a turned down on one end and a counterbore on the other.

Fashion a hook attach for the carb end and you don't need to take it apart. A proper length turn buckle with a hook end and a round eye for the bolt at the top. Takes the guesswork out of ascertaining the perfect length and support tension too. Or make something on the order of this: Bracket

Heck if you really want you can use strategically placed Zip tie's (the thick strong ones), one end on the aluminum brace and the other either on the engine brace or behind (better) on the frame (closer to airbox) i did this and worked fine until i discovered the freak kit had one built into it DOH!

If you really want to use a brace that requires disassembly it's not that hard. The part the carb brace slides over is an aluminum tube. There's a net on one side of the carbs and a bolt head on the other. You can unfasten it and slip the long bolt out. Pry the carbs apart with medium pressure and the spacer will come out, slide on brace (make sure it's on the correct way) and reassemble.
Be careful not to pry the carbs too far apart or you can damage something.
Or use a turnbuckle and just hook it. Easy prays that way and super cheap. Get a stainless steel one at a hardware store and your good to go.

It's the prying apart that I was worried about. Didn't want to damage anything by doing that.

I forgot to mention... on my carbs I got a turnbuckle that was a bit larger and added some clear tubing to it to protect the aluminum spacer from wearing out.
I used to have a nice SS one from Newbonnevile.com but after removing it to upgrade my carbs I found the friction had worn a heavy groove into it.

I have a flat one I made at work. I also made a battery relocation bracket. I will have pictures when I'm done.

I got the carbs back on after rejetting and have noticed a couple of things. First the throttle is sticking. I never disconnected them, and it is idling too fast. I'm sure I can fix that with the idle screw. No idea on why the throttle is sticking.
Totally unrelated, I also put some new turn signals on and now all the lights flash no matter which side I turn on! What the hell?

somehow when you put the carbs back you twisted a cable or moved it slighty, it does not take much on this bike i have found, you can play around with it at the carb end but just as easy to go adjust up at the twist end, might only take a slight tweak to set it free at the top end.

Me either. And I don't remember ever removing one!?? I guess there MUST have been one there from the factory, but there hasn't been one now for nine years.
And you may see me tonight

the idea of the carb brace is to support the carbs. when you go over any bumps in the road the only thing that is supporting the carbs from falling off is the rubbers, eventually the strain will crack them thus letting air in...

Okay I have a problem that maybe someone can help me with. After rejetting, 150 mains and stock pilots, my idle is way too fast. About 2500 rpm. I have moved the pilot adjustment screw and it doesn't seem to change anything. The idle thumb wheel doesn't do anything but speed it up. Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have thought of that and that's the next thing I was going to try. I was hoping for something simple that I was over looking.

The throttle does seem sticky. It's turning cold again here again and I have an unheated garage so it might be a couple of days before I can figure it out.

That was it! Thanks. Adjusted the cable just a little and it fixed the sticking throttle and the fast idle!
