Get a good helmet and put a headset on it. SHOEI RF + Sena headset makes a great combination, with very satisfying sound quality from the Sena speakers....all I'll ever need. Rock 'N Roll

My wife and I both have Nolan N43E open face helmets with the built in Nolan comm systems. They have a good battery life and worked well on our long trip last year. Bike-to-Bike range is about 3/4 mile. The interface is a little funky as compared to our previous Scala Rider Q2 system but works as expected once you get used to it. I use the system to take calls while I commute between client sites and people can't tell that I'm on a motorcycle. It pairs easily with my Samsung phone.

I ride to escape all that stuff.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Ditto. I've considered putting some kind of stereo on my bike a few times, for trips and stuff. Then, after I think about it, I say "Nahhh"!

At home I crank up the stereo... on rides I crank up the Zen!

As I found, they all don't stack up to a good unit put into the helmet you like. Riding around listening to your thought is all well and good. But a bt headset is nice when you really log the miles.

My in-laws have a place out in western Massachusetts. The Mass Turnpike is one long dull straight shot for the 80 mile jaunt I travel.
It is for this ride I want my audio. Music, podcasts, ect. I would not use it for commutes or riding around town

a follow on comment...
The non-integrated units such as the Sena or Scala Rider allow for the main unit to be removed and taken inside for charging. The integrated units such as my Nolan require me to take the entire helmet into the house to plug in. Not a big deal but we normally keep our helmets in the garage. Just a bit of inconvenience.
On a second note, the non-integrated units have a bit of the mounting that hangs below the rim of the helmet. Sometimes easily to get knocked around. An integrated unit doesn't have that problem.

Engine, wind and the view. What more do you need? I've listened to music while riding but after a while it just gets in the way. On the slab? You bet. On a good motorcycle road? Not for me.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I have a Torc with the Blinc Bluetooth. Use it to listen to tunes on the commute. Works pretty good. I've use it to make calls while stopped but haven't while riding. I like it except some times the padding pushes the charging plug sideways (breaking the connection) when your trying to charge it.

I have used the HJC helmet with the integrated chatterbox. The helmet is okay - but the chatterbox wasn't nearly as good as I would have expected. Poor quality and battery was well under what they advertised for life.
On the other hand, I have a sena SMH10, which I attached to another helmet, after market. I can't say enough good about that unit. the ONLY downside is it's pretty big on the outside of the helmet. It hasn't affected anything - other than looking like my helmet has a tumor. the sound quality on that unit has been great, and the batter life has been great. I rode from DC to sandusky, ohio, listened to a lot of music along the way - and one charge lasted all day.
...you're gonna feel a little pressure....
