Another good reason to have a pressure gauge is you can do simple diagnostics with it. If you have worn con rod bearings, the pressure will drop as you increase rpm's due to the centrifugal force throwing the oil out of the eccentric bearings. If the pressure rises with rpm, its a bit difficult to figure out what's going on. Could be a worn oil pump, worn main bearings, or simply overheated oil.
