Hey guys. I'm new here and I've never owned a motorcycle. I'm considering buying a 2014 Triumph America LT and the only thing I really don't like about it is that it lacks a tachometer. I've seen posts about adding tachs but they're on older models and I read that they're different in this regard. Can a tach be easily added to the 2014 America? Can you guys give me links to buy them? Also, would the Speedmaster tach work? I saw that it's mounted on the gas tank. I'm indifferent about it being on the tank or on the handlebars.
Thanks for your help.

The tach that goes in the console on the tank is a Triumph piece, easy plug and play installation. If you can read, and have the ability to loosen and tighten three screws, you can install the tach yourself. I see you're in St. L, send me a message and I'll help you out

I think the ones for the newer models have a black face. The older models were white. Not sure if there are any other differences to consider when purchasing used.

Thanks for the replies.
Where can I buy a new tach? British Customs doesn't list one for the EFI America.
Also, is the connection a standard? Will third-party tachs also work? It would be cool to replace the speedo too to match the tach if I got a third-party model.

Have you looked at just going with a electronic speedo/tach that can be fitted where your tach goes? Start by googling Acewell. web page

Ryk, you mean that goes where the speedo currently is?
I will say that I just watched a video about the Thruxton and I really like the speedo/tach on that bike. Is that doable on an America?

Rye meant putting the Acewell (or some other brand) in the console where the Triumph tach would otherwise go.

You can even buy a angular gauge bezel from marine (boat) supply houses to enhance the visibility of a single console gauge. The up side of electronic/magnetic pick up speedos is that you can dial them in to dead nuts accuracy. I'm holding out until they make the new sat/nav speedos a little smaller.

Looks like the Triumph tach that will fit this bike is part # A9828006. Does everyone agree? If I wanted to mount a third-party tach/speedo, how do I know which will work with a 2014 America and be plug and play?

If you want to verify Triumph part numbers, Bike Bandit is a good source.

You are correct. I think it was one of the first accessories I installed in my 2011 America. It is essentially the stock tach from a Speedmaster (comes standard on that bike) and eliminates the stupid looking obvious block off plate in the middle of the Americas console. The wire harness and plug are already there the tach just plugs right in it only takes a few minutes. Interestingly the box it comes in says Thailand BUT the actual part has made in Switzerland by VDO on it. IIRC
