Pete Seeger, folk pioneer and activist, died at the age of 94. I don't mind telling you I wept when I heard this. He will always remain an icon of peace and human rights in my mind and his tunes will forever ring out their message for generations to come. R.I.P Pete! We love you.

On the 16th of February myself and others will be performing a Pete Seeger tribute set at a local establishment. So many songs to choose from. We will encourage audience participation.
Did you know Pete NEVER performed without audience participation. One of his many trademarks.

I'm sure I'll screw this up, but I believe Mr Seeger once said his goal was not just to write songs for people's ears, but for their lips.

Hey John! I hope you remember that as a moderator you have the ability to move this Pete Seeger tribute thread of Keith's over to that "other" forum, JUST in case your "Smothers Brothers/Gun" story NOW starts this thread in another direction entirely!  
(...RIP Mr. Seeger...you stood up to 'em with head held high and out-lived 'em all, AND wrote some immortal tunes along the way!)

Near the end of 1967 Seeger sang "Waist Deep in The Big Muddy" on the Smothers Bros show, CBS censored it. Later due to the Smothers protest early in 1968 Seeger was asked back to sing it.

This is a remembrance, from a friend of mine, of his time with Mr. Seeger.

RIP Pete Seeger.
I had the pleasure and honor to meet Pete a couple of times. He was at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival a few years ago, which was the second time I got to meet him. The first time I met him was in upstate New York at Nora Guthrie's home. I was playing with Jimmy LaFave at the time and we attended Nora's wedding. Pete had everybody stand in a circle and join hands. He then had everybody in the circle hum a note, creating a harmony. As we in the circle created a beautiful major chord, Pete stood in the middle of the circle and spoke. I had chills up and down my spine and tears in my eyes, along with all the others. It was a moment in time I'll never forget.
Thank you, Pete for all the great music and thank you for always standing up and speaking for the people. The world is a far better place because of your time here.
