tha's cause you've ne'er listened to them properly through that wooden eardrum Dwight!! And no offense, but what would someone wi' the name "Argo" know about proper musical instruments?! I can quite guarantee you, that with a proper pint of stout, and a seat in a Pub (or better yet in the castle) on the Royal Mile looking up at Edinburgh Castle during the Military Tattoo in August would have you singing the praises of the Pipes!

I'm a little surprised at Dwight, since if I'm not mistaken, the Greeks even appreciated the Bagpipes (the Gaida), as did the Persians, and ancient Chinese. True soul-inspiring music for those with a soul I suppose (that should stir the pot a wee bit!)

Actually Greg, I HAVE witnessed this very experience at Edinburgh Castle in person. And YEP, it IS a VERY stirring experience. 
BUT...they STILL sound like somebody's tryin' to choke the living crap out of a GOOSE or somethin'!

would you list some cd titles? pipe and drums are some of my favorite sounds.
imagine being in Grand Central Terminal the morning of the NYC St.Patrick's Day Parade. Pipe Bands march through the main concourse on their way to get into parade position--playing along the way. imagine standine close enough that you can feel the resonance of the piper's drone vibrating in your solar plexus. It's like the Scottish form of Om.
