Tennessee Man Charged in Road-Rage Shooting KNOXVILLE, Tenn. December 18, 2013 (AP) A Tennessee man is charged with two counts of attempted murder for allegedly shooting a motorcyclist several times and backing his SUV into another — after almost hitting them as they exited an interstate. Rodney Lee Scott was jailed on a $1 million bond, the Knoxville County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Tuesday. Sheriff's spokeswoman Martha Dooley said she did not know if Scott had a lawyer. Monday's confrontation took place on the same street where Scott was charged with stopping a car and assaulting a passenger in 2002, according to police records. When the motorcyclists began waving their arms after Scott nearly hit them, first he made obscene gestures, then stopped his SUV in the street and backed into one of them, knocking him over, the police statement said. He was charged with fleeing the scene. A witness stopped to help, and the three followed Scott to his house and called police, the statement said. While they were waiting in the street for police to arrive, neighbors told deputies that Scott, who is white, shouted racial slurs at the motorcyclists, one of whom is black. Scott then went into his garage and came out shooting at the men with a gun in each hand, the police statement said. The sheriff's department says Scott struck Tyler Lakin three times in the back and once in the wrist and continued firing at him as he lay in the road. Lakin was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon. Scott also is charged with attempted assault and leaving the scene of an accident. Other charges are pending the outcome of blood-alcohol tests. The charges against Scott in 2002 were dismissed after he successfully completed probation, according to records from the sheriff's office. Umm, Mike!

Yes, lot's of mistakes were made by both parties. At this point no one knows how this confrontation began. According to the riders the SUV cut them off. Which is probably exactly what happened, but was there something prior to this that may have aggravated the cager? Probably not.
The riders got pissed as we all would and got up behind the SUV. He backs up and hit one of the riders, at that point they had his tag number, a witness and 911 had been called.
They followed the driver to his home and parked in front of his drive way, not a good idea seeing as he had already tried to back over them earlier. The driver goes inside tells the misses to call 911, good Idea, stay inside and wait for the cops. No he goes back outside (bad idea) guns a blazing, and tried to kill one of the riders. Standing over him and firing several rounds into the rider. Who amazingly is still alive.
This same SUV driver was involved with a road rage incident several years back in the same area. A fairly quite area of town.

WHAT?! And not do what a "REAL MAN" would do here, Mike...grab a gun and take matters into their own hands and show people "who's BOSS"?!
Surely you jest, sir!
(...the guy is a freakin' moron...plain and simple...and I hope the judge THIS TIME throws the freakin' book at him...AND speakin' of "THIS time", THIS is EXACTLY the type of MORON that should have been denied legal or OTHERWISE ownership a gun AFTER the FIRST TIME he was convicted of a crime..."probation" MY ASS!!!!!!)

Dude needs to go to prison for several years. And to never be allowed to drive again.
The motorcyclists while not perfect did well. They followed him home but they stayed out of his yard and called the police.
I have been in a situation where I followed a person who assulted an old man on the street. Jumped in a car and drove off. People came out to help the old man so I followed the car while I had the police on the phone telling them exactly where we were. The police trapped them in and forced them over. I confirmed it was the right car and person and off I went on my merry way.

The old fart in the SUV just happen to pick on the "wrong guy". Lot's of motorcyclists carrying, too bad he didn't catch a 9mm in the forehead from the "right guy"

Now there is an interesting question. You follow a guy home and he walks out of his residence with a gun and you shoot him. How does that play out legally?
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

It don't My response was the cager fired at them and tried to kill one of them, standing over him and firing several shots into his torso. The riders were not armed if they had been that f'r would be dead. That don't make it right, but survival is the name of the game.
I said in my original post the riders should have not followed him, but they did, a mistake. If you guys want to turn this into a gun debate ( I do not), I guess the thread will need to be moved. It seems most threads on this forum quickly turn in to debates because everyone is bored of discussing there 2003 mericas

well for one i would have followed that goof home as well and made sure i gave the police the correct address, pretty sure most people (canada anyways) don't worry about the person comming out a blazin, but when plice arrived i would have given my statement and adios amigos. Regardless of the weapon, don';t think it mattered, this guy is off his rocker!
One more thing, calling the police! guy new the system over there, could suggest he was fearing for his life which might give just cause for the weapons...... don't think its going to work but........

If you got the lic tag # and a description of the SUV, why follow the idiot home. The cops don't have access to his correct address with that info?

Stolen vehicle comes to mind, but given the earlier behavior, I would have parked a few doors away
Sad situation though. I hope the victime recovers and the cager gets the sentence he deserves.
Tis the season though, I came back from Home Depot earlier and our local Sheriff's Office had 3 patrol cars and a Fire/Rescue unit breaking up a fist fight between 2 middle aged women in the parking lot. Knives drawn.

Well I guess the bikers stopped him from going elsewhere, at a cost.

What's to debate here, Mike? Didn't Steve's initial post say the following?:
Quote:
Monday's confrontation took place on the same street where Scott was charged with stopping a car and assaulting a passenger in 2002, according to police records.
And thus, this moron has proved from his previous actions in 2002 that he wasn't of fit mental capacity enough to own deadly weapons...PERIOD!
(...and thus...NO DEBATE!!!)
