I would like to bob my rear fender (07 America). I would like to keep the passenger seat where it is...so I guess I would be chopping a foot or so off. It's already painted (spur of the moment project) and I would like to not re-paint. I'm looking for any advise on the best way to go about this (best tool...etc). Thanks

Painters tape and hack saw it, or sawsall really slow. I'd plan on repainting it either way. Low to no heat, thiner blade the better

Cutting it will leave a bare metal edge and tye will require paint or it will rust.
The least damaging to paint will be a hack saw at said above. A jigsaw with a metal cutting blade works too. Make sure you use tape to protect the paint from the foot of the saw.

If you are lucky you just may get away with touching up the edge with paint.

Good luck have fun and take your time. A rush job will disappoint.

If you have a dremel with a variable speed i would use that, you will want to make sure you have a good sum of cuting wheels because they will grind down or break, it will take you some time, if you mask withpainters tape and you take your time you should be able to do it with very little chipping of the paint, buy a small can of paint that closely matches your bike color, spray some in the lid and take a small brush and go over the edge. Take your time, you can get a nice look this way. The other way is to finish the edge with black or chrome door trim for cars.

good luck!

Tape off the both sides with masking tape...use a jig saw with a FINE tooth blade. Mark out a couple of practice runs way lower than you actually wanting to go, and then you can experiment on the shape as well. Go slow...take your time, use a file and or sandpaper to smooth out the edge, then you will have to repaint the very edge but thats it..
Did mine a long time ago and its still good...

The rear is metal as it has to take the weight of a pillion.

I just went out and stuck a magnet on mine. Definitely metal of some ferric constitution.

Metal sir. And if ya do any modifications to the front it is plastic. White plastic.
I threw my front fender in the trash and used a sportster fender to make a new one.
Havent modified the rear one yet.
Havent made up my mind on it.
Thinking flat trailer fender.
