Right hand shift and kick start! Never heard of this old Meriden prototype.

Would have been cool to see that in a production bike. Be cool to see it brought back and put in a bike now too. (with points and kick start of course)

Could that possibly be the ass end of a Hurricane in that photo?

That motor would be cool, but I hate to think what it would take to kick it over.

Probably not too bad, I have kick started bigger displacement engines than that. It is about twice a Triumph twin and I could start those with my hand.

1500cc v6? The compression would have to be seriously low to kick that over wouldn't it?

It still would have taken quite a punch!
Notice how long (for leverage) the bar is.

Fitting a tank above that third carburetor would have been a challenge as well.

I could be wrong here about the idea of how hard it would be to kick-start this 6-cylinder motor, but from my experience years ago, it was the big long-stroke single-cylinder "Thumpers" which were the REAL b*tches to get kick-started back in the day.

And so, I really wonder if this near "square" (bore and stroke being of equal dimensions) WOULD have been all that hard to kick-start, considering that there would be many more chances for a piston to be TDC and ready to fire during the crank's rotation than on a long-stroke Thumper.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

You may be right Dwight. I just remember the inline CBX never had a kicker. I thought it was because you wouldn't be able to kick it anyhow.

You are right about the fewer cylinders the harder to kick. Didn't think of that.

Well kick starting a motorcycle is child's play to the real men that started Model-T Fords by hand cranking the engines!
One backfire while your hand is on this and it's a bad day.

Just think how different things would be if Delco hadn't built the electric starter.

Sorry ladies, just kidding.

With the displacement spread over 6 cylinders, it would be no harder to kick than a 250 single.
