I have an '03 Speedy. A-I removed, Long TOR's (second series), Freak w/ K&N's and pre-filters, Rejetted 150 mains, stock pilots.

At cruising speeds (60+ mph), I get hesitation - like grand dad used to say, "It's cuttin' out."

In your expert opinions, do I need bigger pilot jets, or what else could contribute to this problem?

'Preciate the help!

Thump

More specifics needed.
What position is your throttle in when it happens? 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, WOT?
Does it hesitate when you whack the throttle, or as you're cruising at a steady speed?
Does it stutter or backfire when it does this?
What octane gas are you running?
Got any good beer in TN outside of Memphis?

Thanks for your response.

The problem occurs at most throttle positions, but is most noticable when cruising at steady speeds - not twisting the throttle at all.

There is no backfire, or audible retort, but a "stutter" may be a way of describing what is happening.

I always run 93 octane...

Chattanooga's Big River Grill and Brewing Works have some really nice micro-brewed beers... I used to make my own before I became so lazy. I really enjoyed the Munton and Fison(sp?) Premium malt extract to make a really mellow and hoppy dark beer. I never had much success with light beers (too easy to infect the batch(???). I really enjoy the wheat beers, Spatten, Pshor Brau, etc. I can't spell 'em, but I sure can drink 'em.

Thanks,

Thump

If it happens at all throttle positions I would suspect either something electrical or a vacuum leak. Maybe a plugged or improperly seated jet?
Be sure all of the little vacuum caps don't have any little micro cracks in them. A lof of us had that problem, easily fixed by just swapping them all out every year or two and cheap too.
It could possibly be a case of being way too rich or way too lean. Check plugs for this.
A simple check would be to replace the spark plugs with fresh ones. That may be the problem and at the least will give you a starting point from which to eliminate one thing at a time. Run it awhile (5-10 miles) with new plugs and pull them to see what color the center ceramic parts is about 1/2 way down. NOT at the tip, you should reference the color further down the core part.
Check that all your electrical connections are tight and even pull them all apart and give them a shot of electrical greeze for good measure. Maybe tighten the coil connections a bit too.
If it's electrical, that's a whole new ball of wax. There can be many things causing it and if it's intermittent it's even more difficult to diagnosis. Does it skip if you are sitting still and give it gas, or just while riding and under load?
Let me know what you find. Keep at it and you'll eliminate the pita stutter.

Here's a chart from another post that may be helpful too.

An accelerator pump would solve this danged bogging problem. Heck, with an accel. pump, larger carbs could be fitted and one's bike still run nicely.

By the way, nice carb chart.

Most of the folks here use 160 mains with a Freak, so you could be running a little lean. The sparkplugs will tell you.

Is there any chance ther could be a little moisture condensed in the fuel tank? That could do that.
