GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

is really hard to fight sometimes. I try, but not always succeed in controlling my urges. If I didn't, I'd have about 25 helmets and 25 jackets! That's my addiction. I control it and only have 3 helmets and 3 jackets.

I mean, I like adding stuff to my bike, but I often find myself going to specialty sites talking about the new helmets and new gear coming out. It's hard not to get involved in the spirit of acute upgraditis!

My other GAS is for my drum kit, which keeps growing every year... to the exasperation of my wife!

Oh, also adding Apple stuff around the house... easier with Steve Jobs gone... he could really make me feel like I NEEDED to have his new gizmo! (Although the new and upcoming Mac Pro makes me drool a bit, fortunately, I do not need that kind of power now, so I should be fine... my wife too!)

Oh my...

As the bike goes, I only have 2, the 05 and the 77. One helmet, 4 pairs of gloves, 4 or 5 jackets. I guess jackets one of my many are my GAS's.

Then there are watches, I'm down to about a dozen vintage and modern pieces. Plus a vintage workbench and fortune in tools & customizing accessories (blast cabinet, lume, dials, hands, etc)

Then there are guns... if the number of guns I owned were my age Id be more than old enough to drink.

Then there are tool, there is a garage full of hand and power tools plus a lathe and mill.

Then there are project that enable me to use my tools. Currently 2 projects 77 Triumph T140V & an 82 Jeep CJ8

Im all GASed up!

Guitar strings. I know it sounds weird, but I just HAVE to check out everything that's out there. I often pick up a few sets when I'm out, then add them to my collection once home. Each time I break a string or they just go dead I sift through my collection trying to find something different that I've never used before.

Never been a "gear " guy. Yea gear as in real gears mechanical stuff, but not riding gear. I like the term "keep it simple, stupid".

And btw Jeff, to answer YOUR question here, I don't go overboard or have any kind of "addiction" with purchasing riding gear, but about 6 months ago I did purchase online a Bell Mag-9 helmet which other than it creating a little bit more wind noise than I would like around the face shield mechanism, I like a lot. Other than that, I haven't purchased a new riding jacket or pants in some time.

There maybe a bit of a misunderstanding here. What I mean is, I have and use my riding gear, but I am not into the latest and greatest doodads or kajiggers. I pretty much get new gear when I need it. You know when stuff breaks, wears out, or dont fit any longer.

Each spring when I pull out my leathers for another riding season, I find they shrunk over winter causing me to consider buying new gear. Imagine that... leather shrinking while hanging in dry storage. Yeah, I don't get it either! (Hopefully you get my humour here.)

Oh, okay, sorry. Never mind then.

(...I guess I got the mistaken impression here from your text that your normal gear looked more like those guys who wear outfits which seem more attuned to raiding the Spanish Main upon the high seas of the 17th and 18th Century than riding motorcycles upon asphalt surfaces in the 21st Century!!!)

I'd have to say I'm pretty content with what I have. I've never been one to go out and buy the latest and greatest anyting just because. Although there usually is a someting I'd like to have, but not until I break, wear out or find a good reason to buy that partitcular item. Sure I want another bike, a new jacket, better riding pants, another guitar, a new amp, more tools. But nothing I just absolutly have to have right away. Like I said pretty content, so I guess I just go buy some more beer. It keeps disappearing.

Used to be: Spare parts. Motorsickle parts. Keeping the two girls and one Dame in rubber, frictions, and chain kits kinda thwarts the billion jackets and gloves, and unfortunately, the HEATED GEAR addictions to a non police-able level.

Having a harbor freight in my town now, opens up another genre of wants...

As far as sickles is concerned, I confess I have separate "costumes" for each bike. I wear an old style leather jacket with chains when riding my "57". Wear the newer "checkered" Triumph jacket when riding the America. I'm still looking for and building a costume for the Russian sidecar bike. Still feel a little stoopid for admitting to costume changes on here.

Two angels sitting on my shoulders Need It and Want It. Want is much sexier but Need it has bigger mucles. I guess the Speedmaster was a need it.
