Condolences Dave. I joined the same club on Saturday too. But not as much damage to the bike as you.
I now know how to put knee indents in an EFI tank. I used my knee. I'm a bit hesitant about putting the matching indent on the other side. It's hard enough to walk with road rash on half my calf and a whopping bruise on my inside knee - which did the tank remodeling.
I came round a corner to find a car on the wrong side of the road 20m ahead. Not high speed but, i was going to hit him head on. There wasn't room to ride around him on my side (i would have left the road) so I grabbed a handful front brake and, like Dave the front washed out. My gear protected me well except my Kevlar jeans wore through on my leg with the bike's weight on it. Melted the Kevlar onto my leg in places.
The bike damage is cosmetic (no impact except going down) and insurance should cover it except for the $500 excess. The other driver is an insurance adjuster and he's already distorting the truth so I expect I'll have to foot the bill for the excess.
This all happened Saturday morning - same day as Dave. I was off on a 3 day ride and this happened at the bottom of my street. I went away anyway after replacing the broken clutch but it put a bit of a limp on my trip.

Very sorry it happened to you, Richard. At least you were able to mitigate the damage.

Geez, Richard, ya just couldn't let Dave have his moment, could ya! And wrecking your bike just for some share of the attention is really sad. Ahh, ya know, just jerking your chain! Sorry about your bike. I'm gonna say that there is no way an INSURANCE ADJUSTER is gonna tell the truth about what happened! Hope this is the last report like this on here for a while. (You know the old adage about three's. )

Yeah, we've had just about enough of this crashing stuff around here! Hope you heal up soon Richard. My thigh turned black today.

Yeah sorry Dave. I did wait a couple of days though before posting (actually I only got back yesterday but I thought that sounded more gentlemanly).

It seems to be worse after a couple of days than when it happened don't it. I'm rather hoping my road rash will leave a scar. Sort of make the pain and discomfort a bit more worthwhile.

Sorry to hear about your "off" and I hope you and the bike recover quickly and the insurance folks play fair (fat chance but...).
I already wear a cheap helmet cam on the pushbike and I'm wondering if a Go-Pro might be worth investing in. Must help in cases like this (although there were times in the past when the last thing I needed was a witness.....)
Cheers

Thanks. Yeah I think the go pro would be the only way to overcome the "his word against yours". Although I have played with thoughts of calling on this young bloke (he lives a couple of streets away) and saying something like, "I strongly advise you that your best outcome here is to tell ALL the truth and no embellishments." The implied threat might just work. He will be left wondering just what may happen.

So Richard, I guess you didn't hear that the "club" that Dave belongs to and that one would be well advised to join would be the one where you take an old and unloved vehicle such as an International Harvester and/or Honda Dream and start fixin' 'em up, and definitely NOT this "crash club"! Sorry to hear you too have crashed your bike. Hope you get it sorted out soon. (...oh and yeah, glad to hear your injuries are of the relatively minor variety, also!)
