I was doing some work that required the tank to be removed.
When I replaced it I noticed that the handle bar could touch and possible dent the tank. Was this always the case or did I do something wrong?

Sounds like you have the tank pockets on top of the frame rubbers instead of the frame rubbers in the tank pockets where they belong. Pull the tank back off and look under it you will see 2 pockets where the rubbers on the frame are supposed to go.

this reply is 'probly too late, but adding to Ian's sage advice, make sure the vent tube doesn't get pinched in the mounting saddles. Easy to do and then you'll wonder why your bike sputters and dies.
