Several weeks ago I got an invitation from Triumph or a marketing company Triumph contracted asking if I would participate in mystery shopping my Triumph dealership. Frankly it pissed me off so I trashed it. IF Triumph was really interested in their customer's experience with their dealer (and the motorcycle itself) why didn't they bother to send me a survey after I bought my brand new Triumph? I got one from the dealership checking to see if I was satisfied (I was) but not from Triumph. Triumph knows when you purchase a bike or have warranty work done so do what every other manufacturer does and send surveys to the customer. This mystery shopping scheme is crap.
By the way think long and hard before you bash a dealer on a survey over something beyond his control like backordered parts etc. because they do get an exact copy of your responses and name/vehicle (how else do you think manufacturers let dealers know where to improve or what they're doing right). Unfortunately manufacturers often use the survey system to blame their dealers for any dissatisfied customer reasonable or not...that's how it works in the car business anyway.

Funny you should bring all this up, OB. Ya see, I know a few people who have recently purchased a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and yep, within a few weeks they received a survey in the mail from The Motor Company's customer service people. And ironically all those people told ME that THEY told the Harley people in their survey that they wanted to see the boys in Milwaukee bring to market an even HEAVIER and POORER HANDLING motorcycle than the one's they NOW make! And because Harley-Davidson has always been SO good at giving "The Faithful" want they want, word is their NEXT generation of machines are going to be about 200lbs heavier and handle in the twisties even MORE like a freakin' Mack Truck! (...ain't it good to know that there is at least ONE company which strives to give to their customers the product they desire!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I resent that "Mack Truck" comment, had I been 200lbs. heavier I could have been an All-American, maybe played pro, been a contender.

I second that! I'd I been 200lbs heavier, I could have moved mountains.... so no twisties for me! Hmm, maybe not, but at least I would have looked imposing... especially being 5'7" and 350lbs... Well, maybe I could have rolled to the next seat available.... and impose my... oh darn, just bring me my order of fried cheese, would you?

So far I have bought 3 new triumphs and received an email (within days) with a link to a survey for each one. And a year later follow up survey for each bike as well.

They need to ask us NOW. With thousands of miles and many years of ownership we can tell them what should be improved. Heck, we've already paid to do it ourselves!
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Put a belt on the new 1200cc Speedmaster would be my suggestion. I got a survey in the mail in 2005.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Yea, I got one from Harley when I bought my wife her Sportster. It was mostly about dealership service & buying experience...which was good since my dealership sells both Triumph and Harleys out of the same building!
On two separate occasions I was sent a special survey about boats I've owned. The manufacturers sent special surveys asking what changes and improvements I'd recommend for the next generation of those boats. And my suggestions must have been popular among owners since most were designed into the following generation of the models.
Tell me smart-asses if Triumph asked who here would not answer with a recommendation to offer an optional 1100-1200 cc engine in the America?

Oh, and Triumph's website could use some improvement.
...and when are they going to release information on the rest of the 2014 lineup?
And an accessory seat for the America with 2 inches more cushion...to hell with lowest seat height bragging rights.
A more traditional Triumph shaped fuel tank.
Dual front brakes would be nice since the America has a fat enough tire to use it.
Maybe a clean low maintenance belt drive.
Show engine temperature in the odometer/clock LCD display when the rider scrolls through functions (the ECU already has the info.
I'll think of a few more

I think the Powers That Be at Triumph should read some of the posts on this here forum. Quote:

Well I dunno Dwight, I run my Ford LT 9000 dump in the twisties like a Porshe. One day on Georgia 75 alt. outside Dahlonega going back to get another load of asphalt I was in front of a Harley bagger and a store-bought HD chopper thing and smoked 'em in the curves. 10 tires can hang on pretty good.
But Macks? I dunno.

The local dealer sends me regular emails, well not how satisfied I am but would I like to buy something new type emails couched in maybe a free shampoo or hot dog fund raiser for something or other, Lord Triumph sends me links to their new on line magazine which has interesting articles but is all about selling me something as well.
We ride them we are happy with the product they might ask but then again they already know they make a good product and I think we agree.

One thing they can improve is marketing. If they would have a marketing plan maybe some people would not say,"wow a Triumph, what year?" and "they still make those?" and "oh yea......who make that?".
Herpies drugs are better marketed than Triumph Motorcycles.

Makes sense, more people have herpies than Triumphs

Not very effective if Triumph sells more than 45,000 motorcycles a year. Instead of a high school Facebook B1tch fest joined in by others who have probably never even owned a Triumph. They need clear specific information from as many real customers as possible that bought their bikes brand new not used bikes with unknown maintenance/damage/neglect/modifications etc.
Surveys are far from perfect but asking new owners specific questions after a year of riding would help constantly improve both product and dealerships if executed correctly.

Agreed. The best motorcycles nobody knows about. Great for owners who want to "Go their own way" and ride something different...not so good if your business is selling new motorcycles.
