That's weird, my speedo did the exact same thing Sunday on my journey back from the Arkansas Rally. The odometer and tripometer continued to work so that tells me the cable is "probably" not the culprit, but the speed indicator went bananas. I rode about 11hrs without that sucker working.
I just set the RPM's on 5k in 5th gear and let her roll.
It seems someone did find a fix for these issues, "a gear or something" in the past but I'm probably dreaming that up.
