Problem found.....the boss that holds the pin for the starter gear is cracked...about 1/8th to 1/4 inch long (not sure exactly), and only in one place...Devastating find. My only hope at this point is to find an expert welder that can close the crack up, and zap it with a MIG or TIG welder...I missed the crack before somehow, but it's definitely there...65,000 miles on the bike, and if it can't be fixxed by welding, It will be a total loss, as $2000 for a salvage engine, labor and all, simply won't be worth it...$4700 for a lower engine half from Triumph...Any ideas for the disposition of this bike would be welcome....
