It is great that there are a lot of new people around here. However, it would be great for you new people (and some that have been around) to go into your profile and put where your location is. There are a couple good reasons for doing it. For starters, it is nice when someone else sees that there is another America/Speedmaster rider in their area. Plus, when talking about area specific things, it helps to know where you are.

I posted a similar post a while back with little results.
Should location be mandatory?

Make it mandatory and people will just lie about where abouts.
Once they get use to us they may add this info.

The other nice thing about adding your location is in the case that someone happens to be visiting your area and wants to know what to do and where to go when there, they can PM ya and ask. Already had it done to me and I was more then happy to tell another member things to do and see when his family visits there area here next week.

No need to worry about Internet Paranoia - Just wear an aluminum / aluminium foil hat. It will protect you from being probed. Oh, and be sure to hang a ground strap from your arses.

Chy,

I didn't used to be paranoid, but now Phil- aka Bonnyusa, with his all seeing, all knowing administrator powers has me spooked. Matter of fact this morning at around 5 am (7 am Eastern Time), a voice came over the 'puter speakers asking "if I was going to lie around in bed all day!" And said 'puter wasn't even turned on!!

Having said that, it is nice to know where folks are from. I like living and riding in western Nebraska.

I also know when you are bad or good John, AND when you are LYING about where you are from!

Seriously folks, it doesn't hurt to fill out a little more info in your bio.
It might even help you to get together with fellow Triumph riders in your area!

Soren,
When I first joined, I was worried everyone would come steal my bike or worry me. Then I saw that no one cared unless I met them half way. That's not really a good reason, but you'll never know where I live - I won't post it. The credit reporting agencies told me how you'll steal my identity and I will be no one!!!
You'll never know where I live, what I ride or what I do. Never!

You guys don't even have to be THAT specific either. Case and point, my sig, just says long island. Of course that says a LOT but at the same time, you could say XX county, or "near Atlanta", or whatever. Some guys (like Bluesbass) are smartasses and put their coordinates, that sorta thing. But like others have said, always nice to know you've got a riding buddy around. I've had a TON of people PM me and say they used to live on LI or have family there, etc. Good times.

I'm coming to BeaverTown Oregon to hunt you down. Will I find you there? I love beavers, you know.

There's a nice chap on here who just lists the "northwest area" of his home state. It took me all of about 3 minutes to find his home address.

The internet is an amazing place!

As a follow-up to the above post, it's now just a couple minutes later. Do the streets Gingham, Estuary and 6th mean anything to anybody who has posted on this thread?

And wearing a tin foil hat doesn't help either, especially if your middle initial is "L" and your phone number is xxx-8476.....

Sometimes the hunt is a little harder, as there can be choices, such as: If your middle initial is "A" one might want to look on Bradshaw, but if one's middle initial is "H", one might want to look on Lawrence.

The really tough ones are folks who live in huge metro areas, where 10 million people or more reside.

A fellow would have to really "Rollstone" to dig up a location there!

OK, in the last few minutes, if I've not induced just a little paranoia, I'd be surprised.

One more: sometimes folks think they can hide out in the middle of nowhere, near a little town like "Thompson Falls", but that wouldn't work, would it? hehe

This is too easy. If someone had the middle initial of "R" and lived on 120th Way, I'd know they were not lying! Watch out for alligators and hurricanes!

This is the toughest one: someone here might not be calling his home town by it's real name, but instead refering to a famous town very nearby (or maybe he recently moved). All I could find was Monroe St in Harrisburg. Did I get it, Mikey?

Maybe that "somebody" has an ex that lives on 6th. My sources list Gingham and Leonard (for he and his ex wife with the same name as the person on 6th), Estuary and a street in Vancouver, WA (with a wife of a different name) and a current address on 141st. Hmmm... let me know when it's time to go after him

Go Papa,
And the Lawrence I'm on is very close to Bradshaw, like 6 blocks. Can I throw this stupid aluminum hat away?

Funny guy, eh papa?

Actually, all this information is available due the Freedom of Information Act. Court records, deed/land filings, some utility companies, etc. There's a boatload of info out there and very easy to find. Right papa?

An interesting side note here and you all should pay attention! A couple of years ago, I was checking the Broward county records department online and there were PDFs of the sales documents for our current house. Reading it over, I see........, WTF??? There's mine and my wife's Social Security numbers on there for all the world to see!!!

I called the county and was referred to a document that I had to fill out to have this information expunged from the records (I cannot believe the onus was on me for this!). I did so and they are now blacked out. Asshats!

Check every source of your personal information and take appropriate action!!!!!
