Well guys it seems that the cdi gremlim has bit me! My Speedy is a 2003 with 42,000 miles on it and I ride in the heat and rain a lot so I was not caught to off guard by this. I did all the usual checks, vent tube, hidden carb filter, swapped coils and plug wires around and changed the plugs. However I still continue to get an intermittent case where I drop the left cylinder and it is always the left cylinder. I can go a few hundred miles or 50 it cuts out and then kicks back in usually. After reading the sticky about the Procom CDI in the performance section I'm a bit nervous about buying one. I noticed that there haven't been any recent posts but it seems most haven't been overly happy with them. Has Procom fixed the issues that people had early on with them or should I just bite the bullet and get a new Gil from the stealership?

JD, I just installed a Procom on a 2003 after using a couple of used oem's for the last couple of years. I plugged her in, set on 4 per the guide on the back. Fires right up, runs stronger in all ranges than it has in a long time. No popping on decel. It is however very cold natured as was the 2004 I recently sold. I'll continue to play with the various settings to see how she responds. Overall I'm pleased with the results.

Mike, that is encouraging. I don't really want to spend the money on a oem, the price of the Procom is much more reasonable.

Installed one here too but not on my bike.I think I set the one I used on 6 as per the guide. (been a while, could be wrong about the setting.) Bike runs great in general but doesn't start as easy as it used to with the OEM.

JD, I have the 2nd CDI Procom ever sold & the 1st on installed in our bikes. My 03 Speedy had gone through 2 stock CDIs before that. I haven't had any problems with it since.

Well guys, I got my Procom CDI yesterday and got it installed. I was able to get about 35 miles on it last last night and another 15 on the way to work this morning for a total of around 50 miles. So far I am very happy with it. I just set it to setting 7 which is the one that matched the number on my stock unit. It fired right up, did not seem to take any longer than usual to warm up and idled fine. I took it out for the test run and was very happy. The bike seemed to pull harder through the whole rpm range and most importantly I have yet to have that intermitent cylander cut out pop up on me. It was 49 degrees this morning here in Dayton, Ohio and the bike fired up fine this morning as well. So far my Procom unit seems as good as the stock one. I plan on doing a good deal of riding this weekend so by Monday I should have a few hundred more miles on it for a better assesment. I will post my further updates in the appropriate sticky in the Performance section. Just want to say thanks to the guys who have helped me out on here with everything this year.
