I think they are all pre EFI bikes too. Some folks may be moving on to other technologies and sizes. Our bikes are really small and in some cases slow to todays standards.

SLOW? Well I guess when you say compared, blah, blah, blah. But the speed limits haven't changed have they? I'm sure I still break plenty of limits on my old carburated motosickle. Although I still want a Tiger Exploer, maybe a new Thrux too, oh just dreaming about this T100 I saw last week at the dealership, man it was purddy, didn't really care for the pee-shooter exhaust. My son (age 7) really likes the triples. Look now I'm the one rambling.

maybe some people just hate this forum so much now that they are selling their bikes

I am just saying that the 865 is pretty small in the cruiser market. Even Triumph doubled it with the T-bird and they still sell the Rockets.
Most of the BMW cruisers are bigger, all honda cruisers, I think all Yamaha now, all Victory, Nearly every Harley.
They need a 1100 or 1200 Speedmaster or America or both.
Maybe they are selling like hotcakes. I know I don't see them where I live.

Huh?! Sorry Ron, but I have no idea what you meant by this. BMW hasn't made a "Cruiser" for ten years, and since they ceased production of their R1200C in 2004...saddlebags or not.

Essentially BMW's only cruiser, but Ron's right, at 1200cc it was bigger, in fact the perfect sized non liquid-cooled engine for a still somewhat nimble cruiser (that I wish Triumph had come up with), in my opinion.

Not to brag here T-man, but as you may recall, I MAY have been the very FIRST person at this website almost a decade ago now to have gone on record strongly recommending(some may have considered it a "rant" at the time) to Mr. Bloor that he have his boys create a "Super Bonneville" with a displacement of at least 1000cc pumping out around 80bhp and with upgraded suspension(and all for probably no more than an extra $1,500-1,700 or maybe $2,000 TOPS over the standard 790cc/865cc Bonneville models with their CRAPPY stock suspension) and that was FACTORY MADE and that one could purchase at ANY TRIUMPH DEALERSHIP! (...and so yeah, you're definitely preachin' to the choi..err..PREACHER here, ol' buddy ...and it's just too damn bad that Bloor's Boys since Day One of the Bonneville line's debut have thought of this line of their machines as a "nice little retro re-creation that should be built to a reasonably low cost" and NOW is primarily considered their "Entry Level" motorcycles, AND when there has ALWAYS been so much MORE potential to these machines' basic platform, AND which for some dumb/lame reason they have ALWAYS seemed to have failed to recognize over there on that little island known as Jolly Ole England...specifically in a little town known as Hinckley!)

I don't really think they failed to recognize the potential, they just allocated their resources into products they could commercially 'milk' way into the future. Apparently air-cooled engined bikes do not fit that profile for numerous reasons. Don't be surprised if the next Bonnie is water-cooled. Heck even BMW are introducing water into their boxer lengines. Blasphemy I tell you!

Then please explain Indian's all new AIR-cooled motorcycle then?
What, you don't think Polaris has heard this same thing about air-cooled motorcycles being on the way out?
Nope, sorry T-Man, but in MY view, Triumph has missed a golden opportunity to create the FACTORY-built "perfect retro" motorcycle for almost 10 years now.
Though of course all the "cottage industry" types who have profited all these years making big bores for the Bonnevilles probably haven't minded one little bit. In fact, whenever I'd bring this up to Matt Capri at South Bay Triumph, he would always tell me how he LOVED that the boys in Hinckley never made a bigger displacement Bonneville model because it would have cut too much into his side business of selling his versions.

My take is they didn't want to commit commercial SUICIDE. Of course the Indian is an AIR-cooled motorcycle, Dwight. What chances would Polaris have of any success if they RE-introduced (yet again) an iconic brand with massive air-cooled heritage by installing a water-cooled engine ... zilch! I don't think they had a choice.
Besides, they can still get away with air-cooled for a while. Also, HD are starting to slip in water-cooling into some of their engines/models (and I don't mean the V-Rod). You'll probably find Indian following in their footsteps at some point.
What do you think?
Regarding Triumph's "perfect-retro" machine ... look at the twin cylinder engine development timeline.
Circa 2001 - 790cc (Bonnie) Circa 2004 - 865cc Important to note here is that the 865 was an extension to the 790 with limited costs since no real capital outlay for major re-tooling was required etc. Circa 2005/6 - Commencement of development of the water-cooled engine used currently by the T-Bird.
To me, as I said in my previous post, their resources and efforts were focused on the latter engine after 2005 and Triumphs's somewhat tight model strategy doesn't surprise me at all. I am also under the impression that they logically wouldn't have wanted to dilute the market outcome of the Bird, by concurrently developing an "in between" and competing model. That would have been extremely stupid and with that in mind, I don't think they missed any "golden opportunity".
Remember, our models (as does the Scrambler and the Thruxton) only exist because of the Bonneville and it's engine, which again kept costs relatively low as they didn't need to develop a new powerplant. Heck, even for the first model year of the America it was called the Bonneville America, until they decided it was a marketing blunder and changed it.
What I/we would have liked to have seen (air-cooled 1000-1200cc), unfortunately is another matter. That would have made a neat, hot-rod, flickable and even better planted cruiser (provided they kept the weight relatively low - ideally perhaps around 10 per cent over the current America/Speedmaster).
Bedouin.

R1200R is a cruiser
You absolutely were the among the first to push for the liter or bigger HP heavy cruiser. They missed the boat on that one IMHO> They should have listened to Dwight.
Affectionately because I love Triumph America, when I get off my Kingpin and get on the 790 it feels like a moped.
Now that I am old and spoiled, I don't think I would take another 1000+ mile trip to anywhere under 700 pounds and 80+ HP. They just simply feel so well planted at highway speeds.
Have been under 800cc to Sturgis, Biketoberfest, Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, New Jersey coast, Triumph fest in AZ twice, etc. No more, bigger better rides are available and affordable for that.
The only reason I said the above is thinking many more husband wife teams are probably thinking the same thing.
The liquidation here could be financial or trade ups. Who knows. I do notice they are pre EFI that may say something. I also notice that we have very few newer bikes on the forum as participants. Is that a market meter?

It's not actually, it's just a naked "classic".
The only cruiser BMW ever produced was the 1200C (in several variations).

Their sales brochures and sales people will describe the R1200R as a Roadster. So there.

That ship has probably sailed for Triumph now. I think the 865 cruiser (Not Bonneville) will probably be replaced with a bigger bike or eliminated entirely if sales are low.

Come on erle give us a hint. Does it start with POS?
I actually walked in to my old defunct Triumph/BMW/Ducati/Aprilia dealership in April of 02 to buy one. Rode away on a Red TBA. Never regretted it but still wouldnt mind owning a R1200RT.
