I don't really think they failed to recognize the potential, they just allocated their resources into products they could commercially 'milk' way into the future. Apparently air-cooled engined bikes do not fit that profile for numerous reasons. Don't be surprised if the next Bonnie is water-cooled. Heck even BMW are introducing water into their boxer lengines. Blasphemy I tell you!
