The last thread that got deleted was going quite civil . The one about the boy who was suspended . I didnt see one post that was vitriolic in the least bit. Now that thread is just gone.

I agree and submit that Friar would probably have left it go as long as it stayed that way.

The imposition of helmet laws are a gross over reaching attempt to slow the growth of motorcycle usage.
Rotella is the only oil , and an oil filter is bull spit because the safety valve in the bottom opens at 10 or 20 lbs of pressure.

This smacks of religious undertones with political overtones.

Gotta say this thread seems to be asking the question: Has BA.com 'jumped the shark'?

(...I duuno...you guys think maybe all us Fonzies around here have met our Pinky Tuscaderos, and now most of our 'episodes' are just gonna be based on some kinda lame flashback format or somethin'???)

Is it really? What constitutes "politics" for me may be far more limited than what it is for others, or for you.

Good point. I guess no non-motorcycle related politics. Your right,a helmet debate, red light camera debate,is (by default) a political debate.

out riding this weekend.. I ran into 8 different guys that were riding a BA or SPEEDY.. talked to all of them about this site.. and I have to say I was floored by the feed back I got.. first all knew about this place but only 2 were members the rest just lurked.. and only 1 liked the site...and most did say all the same thing ..that they did find the site very and I will quote "clique-y". . and I have to say WOW..I have been to 3 different rally's.. met lots of people and no one has left me or my wife out ..in fact just the opposite every one has been great ..and very friendly.. people have gave me stuff.. gone out of there way... just a very great group of riders..
and I told all of them this a good site ..but all like the RAT site better and got more from it???? your pulling my leg right???told about our tech section ton of great info and if you need help just ask some one will step up and help ..and then I got .."that fxxking Dwight" and I had to lol..sorry Dwight.. and I really did stand up for you.. saying he not a bad guy ..and told him how you can ignore a member if want...wonder how many people have Dwight on ignore??? but any way said he would come back and check it out..
the other was a member who said he was here every day looking on the site.. and like some others feels it not the same as when FJ ran it..so has moved on ..told him it still a very good site. like the others said he may come back and check it out..

and this is where I agree to a point.. back then we had ONE PERSON IN CHARGE...today we have group.. and I have to say the group thing is not working as well..because what one mod will let go another won't..so that mod nukes it you guys being on the same page.. will be a big help..

Thanks for your support, Ed!

I guess some people just overlook my little tagline where I warn 'em about me bein' "an acquired taste", and instead of stickin' around long enough to "acquire" the "taste", just prefer to think of this place as "clique-y" instead and then just move on, huh?!

(...see?!...I guess some of the regulars around here were right after all..."some" of us just scare too many people away from this website at first blush, huh!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well, Yep I said it, you Dee-White-Boy scare people off. However when I said it I meant it jokingly, even though you are a wee bit of a ___________ (FILL IN THE BLANK!)

Clique-y? Nah, I don't see it that way either, but I guess when your one of the cool kids you really don't pay much atttention to the nerds in the library all day long. Or maybe I'm just to mellow to let overreactive people and BS drama have much effect on me and I carry on with my own beliefs and convections. Although I do have enough decency to LISTEN to someone elses views and opinions without wanting or needing to force mine on them even if they are COMPLETLY WRONG! Some people just can't help it, they were born stupid.

I appogize in advance if I cause this thread to be deleted or locked. But at the same time I do offer my sincere gratitude to the Mods that help control this unruley group of "Clique-y Smartasses".

All in fun and for the love of Triumph.

See I don't agree with this. Most of the present moderators have always been around except maybe Phil is gone. Its just that John was the most vocal and most active of the moderators on this site. Let's face it he was just "louder" and was not shy about sharing his opinions. I didn't necessarily think he was the leader. It has always been kind of a shared leadership in my opinion. Now Moe and Chy are the administrators so I consider them the "leaders".

As far as the cliqueiness goes, I felt that at the very first Rally I attended. I think it was GA 07. I came by myself and didn't really know anybody and didn't feel included but the more Rallies I attended I felt more accepted. I don't think that is a big deal it's just the way life is. If you are the new kid in class you just have to get to know people and find someone you have something specific in common with. I have never really felt that though on the site. Most people just speak their peace. I have never really seen anyone criticized for giving their opinion unless they were intentionally being obnoxious.

I also have to say I agree a lot with what Bedouin says. I am a member of only two internet sites. Here and the one for Thunderbirds. Over there they have no moderators. In three years there may have been 2-3 instances where things got out of hand, but the members themselves handled it. Like he said we are all big boys and girls and should be able to treat each other decently without loosing our cool.

That's it. I do enjoy this site more when a sense of humor is involved. That's why I am returning to my philosophy of short, shallow and hopefully humorous posts. Yota understands what I'm talking about. He's the "King" of shallow.

Well I happen to like Ole Dee-Wight, mostly because of his wise assery. I dont know how clique-y this place is. I do agree more vocal moderators would help. Yea John was loud but he was fun, and fair. Not that the guys doin the dirty work are not fair. They are. And they are good people. You know cliques do form no matter how many and who is buds with who, who agrees with who. But generally its not so bad that anyone is shunned. Hell I am still here and have some good conversations. Hell I may even have a few friends on here.
So I am guessing that if the mods would be more out spoken it would help, the rest of us have a better perspective. You know John would come in and give warning and joke even. Like; hey, chuckle heads your pushing the line. I will get out the hammer. He let every one know but with out being mean. He also let people work out their differences.

I wonder if D might be some distant kin to Dee Ray White from West Virginia, there in White county.

I felt like the number of threads (or posts) that get deleted or locked has gone way down over the last year!??

I don't post as much as I used. We've have had several members move on to better roads & it just hasn't felt the same to me.

Paul- you werent left out in 2007. your massive consumption of alcohol scared the younger crowd & we didn't want to have to compete. If you had done the quarter trick back then you would be ruler of the site. Love ya man!

No disrespect to the departed but with FJ and many threads I participated in, I felt our posts were accompanied by a "running commentary" with a strong reminder of who is in "authority" and that "benevolent dictatorship" and "hammer smiting" threat BS.
I like crafting my own opinions (within the appropriate boundaries, of course) without guidance or fear of wasting my time because a thread got deleted while I was still composing a post.
After all, the value of forums such as these (I call them cafes) is the membership, the content and information/solutions they contribute and the variety of personalities and cultures they exhibit.
Yes ... and sometimes there are differences and minor clashes.
Big deal.

I've often wondered who the couple was that left their mattress in the middle of the interstate. Brave lot they were.

Is this what we are asking for before a thread gets deleted?

To be blunt they sound pretty friggin meek to me. My advice would be to bust out with their Wally World water-wings, jump in and sink or swim.

From my perspective, some posts have been deleted that didn't involve politics, religion, or personal attacks.

So...why were such posts deleted?

Were the applicable posters offered an explanation, either publicly or privately?
