I'm working on the dent repair in the Thunderbird Sport tank, and now thinking about the next steps.
I have a friend helping with the mounting.
Do I need to seal the tank?
It appears to have been empty and dry for a long time, but not rusty or cracking.
I started looking around to purchase a petcock. Should I get a stock one or a Pingel, there are so many different types, I had no idea. Suggestions?

At double I would go with the oem again. If it is just sticky I wouldn't worry about it, mine has been like that for years, still works and doesn't leak so no need to change it.

No not sticky, the new tank, just does not have a petcock, so I have to get one. There are a few on ebay, and such. It does seem that the stock one, might be the way to go.
