you can use just about any regular connector,(i would sauder it on though versus clamp) either the C shaped one or the loop, not sure what you have there but over here i would just go to Canadian Tire, for the cover you can use a tone of things, heavy duty balloon (red one!) you could also use liquid masking tape etc. not sure if i was helpful or not.
