Here is what I know to be fact.

These CDI's can be very temperamental. You may take it off try it on another bike and it may run ok,for a while before it acts up. You may unplug it from your bike, plug it back in and again it may run ok, for a while.
It can be a real problem to diagnose it's failure. Been there, done that, currently doing it again on an 2003, I feel ya brother.
My recommendation is, if your are fairly confident it's bad. Order a Procom from Fasteddy, I think they are $269.00 and do the swap. Throw the OEM on the shelf for an emergency. Another option would be a friend who has the same bike loan you their CDI for a test ride.
