If your wheels have the traditional spokes, the rim will not make an adequate seal and a tube is required. With mag wheels, tubes are not generally required. In the event of a roadside flat (tubed tire), you have to pull the wheel, dismount the tire, patch the tube and re assemble every thing. With a tubeless, with luck, install a plug, re inflate and get to a better place to fix it right. To your question, you can't go tubeless unless you have mag (solid cast) wheels.
