What are the advantages of tube-less vs tube tires, or via-a-visa? If your motorcycle has tube tires, can one go with tube-less tires should that be your desire? Yep, you guessed it, I don't know much bout tires. Any advise and all opinions are greatly appreciated.

If your wheels have the traditional spokes, the rim will not make an adequate seal and a tube is required. With mag wheels, tubes are not generally required. In the event of a roadside flat (tubed tire), you have to pull the wheel, dismount the tire, patch the tube and re assemble every thing. With a tubeless, with luck, install a plug, re inflate and get to a better place to fix it right. To your question, you can't go tubeless unless you have mag (solid cast) wheels.

And there is no "tubeless" or "tube type" tire. A tire is a tire. Spokes are old school and cool, but like Ryk said, get a flat and you got problems. Alloys are nice too, and a plug kit and a can of PSI and you're good to go.

The spoke nipples, are the components that keep spoke wheels from being airtight, and they will flat your tire. Thus the need for rim strips and inner tubes. Some rims have spokes outside the pressure cavity and thus do not need tubes or rim strips. The Tiger 800 XC for one. Motorcyclist, "The 32-spoke wheels feature anodized-aluminum rims with twin spoke flanges where the fixed ends hook through; the threaded nipple rides on the hub side. You've seen a similar approach on the Yamaha Super Tenere. Supposedly, you get the benefits of a spoke wheel—namely, tolerance of abuse—while still running tubeless tires, which are the same size as the base bike. The weight penalty for all this mild farkling? Triumph lists the XC’s curb weight as 586 pounds, or 16 more than the non-XC version."

Righty-O! Thanks Moe, You answered the question that I didn't know enough to ask. To make sure I understand, it is the wheel that dictates the need for an inner tube, and inner strips? I take that to mean that the tire doesn't have to designed as a tube tire or tubeless tire? So, I can buy the tire I prefer and have new tubes and strips included in the installation?

Yep Rich, BMW has used this system on their GS-series bikes for quite a few years now.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yeah, I confess, I haven't kept up on newer bikes at all. For the most part, they don't interest me. New cars the same way. I read the occasional article that comes my way is all. Back in the day, I read Car and Driver, Hot Rod and various biker mags and Street Rod. Then, everything started to be all about the computers and electronic gizmos and I lost interest. Remember when Hot Rod used to show you how to weld your own frame together to fit a rack and pinion system from a wrecked Maverick. Now, it's all about fitting a $30,000 (!!!) aluminum frame to your "creation". Can't be interested.

Read the post 3 up from here. Yup, a tyre is a tyre. Or is it - a tire is a tire ?
Tirelessly in the city of Tyre, Tim's tyrade tired the tyrant's retired Thai chef. I ran out of stuff that sounds like tire. Bummer.

I asked for clarification because the current tires, or casings, (as my Father would say) on my America do have "tube" printed on them. Both front and rear. Not trying to be anal retentive, just adding to my education.

I'm gonna start a tread "How many smartarses out there?"
And "tread" was actually a typo, but it sorta fits here.

In the debate of tubeless versus tubeless tires, I prefer tubeless tires
