I've taken the opposite tack when there are cars ahead of me, I stop in the middle about 25 feet back. That gives me the option of going either way around the car in front of me and some room to maneuver.
The important thing is to always give yourself a way out in every situation. How you do it is up to you.
I've also put additional lights on the back that flash when braking.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
