Very sorry to hear this sad news about your co-worker, Ronald.
And what I'd like to add is the thought:
"But motorcyclists also need to always pay attention to their rear view mirrors as they slow to a stop at a red light, and until they recognize the car behind them is also slowing to a stop."
Hard News to take about your coworker & my prayers go out to him for recovery in any measure.
I agree with Dwight completely, but situational awareness is one of the essential skills for every rider....keeping an eye in the ol' rearviews helped me escape a speeding Caddie on 50 hwy as I was riding home from a day's "fun run" in the Ozarks just last weekend.
The Caddie was in the passing lane & i was tooling along in the "slow" lane @ 70 mph. The Caddie blew past me at something approaching 100 then swerved into my lane what would have been by inches in front of me(at best..but probably woulda clipped my front tire and sent me to an untimely end) if I hadn't applied the brake at just the right time.
I urge all, to keep checking the mirrors not only just at stops, but as you are rolling along as well.....an aware motorcyclist is an alive biker!
