A few weeks ago a friend of mine was hit on his Harley by a texting driver. He gets out of the hospital tomorrow. Broken pelvis, smashed shoulder plus lots of more minor injuries. Why isn't texting while driving treated like drunken driving? Why shouldn't someone texting when they hit someone be charged with manslaughter if someone dies or depraved indifference if they survive? When some seventeen year old cheerleader goes to prison for ten years or a thirtyfive year old Realtor gets twenty to life maybe people will start to wake up. Community service or weekends in jail for six months don't cut it.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
