I worked three lightning strike deaths as a paramedic and I had my hand on the aluminum boom when the aluminum mast was struck by lightning while motoring back from Looe Key in the Florida Straits back in my sailing days.
As my wife and children were below and I didn't want anyone else topside all I could do was shake it off, grab the tiller, and keep going. Obviously, it wasn't a major hit (as I can write this) but I've always been very careful about getting off the water in a storm ever since.
That $hit hurt.
