I recall a news story back when I lived in CA about a motorcycle being struck by lightning. I thought it was odd because lightning is not that common in the central valley (compared with other areas) and that it happened on a dry day. As I recall, the direct strike exploded the gas tank and the rider was killed, explosion or subsequent crash I dont know which. I suppose just about anything can happen, so no point in worrying about it.
