Did you up the pilots? That will give you some better off the throttle snap. Stock is 42's maybe try 45's. They are cheap.

Are the carbs synced and also 150 jets sound slightly big to me, is that where the jet calculator took you? Also, what needles are you using, any shims? Tors, stock, de-baffled. Provide to us the finer details and one of our Gurus will get you closer to air/fuel Nirvana.

Any popping on decel? Any vaccum leaks? Maybe another 1/4 turn out? Just thinking out loud.

Backfire as in comeing back thru the carbs? Or do you mean ignition of unspent fuel in the exhaust?

Our carbs are tuned and regulated by throttle position, never RPM. So, you need an assessment of off idle, 1/4 Throttle, 1/2 Thrtl. 3/4 Thrtl. and full wide open. Also, you will prob. need to use 4th gear, but at full Wide Open, if you reduce to 7/8ths Thrtl. Pos. does the Rpm gain, stay the same or slow down. I personally have had the best tune with Thruxton needles w/no shims, although others find happiness with TBS, stock, stock with shims, every bike seems to be a rule onto itself to a limited degree. It is also advised to make changes one at a time, so you can get a better feel if you going in the right or wrong direction. Bottom line, If an ignorant old fart like me can tune a CVK from just reading the input of other members on here, I'm sure you can too. Oh and consider investing in a carb. sync. tool, the results are definitely worth it.

I'm thinking you might be running a bit rich(unspent fuel) but I'm not sure. I do agree with Ryk and suggest you balance the carbs. You can get a decent manometer fairly cheap or make one like I did using some clear tubing, a yard stick and some 2 cyl oil. Also is the TPS still connected?

yep, its a triangular connection, kinda a PITA to get off but do-able. I'm not sure if it will make a difference or not in you situation. Most people have disconnected it when dealing with popping issues on decel. I was just curious.

Hmmm, i would not take the TPS off, just the AI and a propper tune and you should be fine.

The man was advised to unplug not remove the TPS to deal with backfiring. You can not remove the actual TPS unless you make a plug to replace (like I did) or I believe LowBrow sells a machined/o ringed cap to actually remove and seal the sensor hole. You can always just plug it back in if that does not help stop the popping.

There is a huge difference between chuffing/spitting/farting through the carbs (generally a sign of a lean mixture), and LOUD CANNON-TYPE BANG detonation/explosion in the exhaust (generally a sign of a rich mixture).
Knowing which of the above you have is the first step in resolving it.

Its probably more of a chuffing/spitting/farting sound. It is not a loud detonation....
