So Im about to get down and dirty and swap out my Speedy tank for a 2007 bonneville tank. Im going to have to live without the dummy lights but I would surely like to find an alternative. If any one has some guidance on this please weigh in.
I would also like to find a cheap tach to somehow mount to my handlebar so I can keep it. It is not a total necessity but again...it is something I would like to keep.
Does anyone have any advice or guidance on this matter? I will be doing the tank swap this weekend so I will be sure to have some before and after photos up by then.

Drag Specialties sell a mini tach and it comes with a basic handlebar mount. Google is your friend.

Gday Sam
Im doing a similar conversion to a FI Thruxton tank. Ive pretty much decided on a Joker Machine handlebar clamp that has the lights built in, that way I can keep the original speedo. Its designed for a Harley the holes need to be adjusted and the wires need to be cut and soldered which is the only thing holding me back at the moment. Makes it harder to convert back to stock obviously!
Im going to leave the tacho, I dont ride the Speedy like my race bike so find that I hardly ever use it.

You think i could just bolt the bracket to speedo or the handle bar?
As far as my mod this weekend, I got the Bonneville tank on and it looks sweet. I guess the overall question I wanted to ask is there a way to cannibalize the tach that was on the dash on the speedmaster tank and somehow wire it to bike again and mount it up by the speedometer? If I take it out it's going to need some kind of housing, anyone run into some kind of random doo dad that would work? Im doing all of this on a shoestring budget but if it comes down to it I know I can buy and all-in-one gauge from dime city or drag specialties.
Last question, is there a wiring map somewhere on this forum that would allow me to figure out what Im doing? The tach and all the dummy lights connect to that big rectangular attachment which looks like a huge electrical conduit. Nothing I have seen has that big ass connector. (please forgive the incorrect terminology)

I have this tach. I took off that coat hanger wire gathering bracket thing and used one of those holes to mount it. I think I made a bracket from a piece of aluminum from Home Depot, a hack saw, drill and some files. Nothing fancy...

I know this is off topic but...I checked out your website to see if you had any bike pics and looked around and...is that Keith Morris in your Music pics. That is an awesome picture.
and on a more relavant topic. I like following what you are doing, because I've been contemplating changing out my tank as well.

Thanks for this! I might go this route but after a week of riding without the dummy lights and Tach, i am not sure im going to need any of them in the future. I do have it in my head to do one of two things:
1) Splurge and get the Acewell 2860 digital speedo and tach combo which comes with dummy lights
2) More realistic...get one 1.9 speedo and one 1.9 mini tach and figure a way to mount and replace my current speedo.
3) Definitely going to do first: Buy the British Customs Oil Pressure Gauge because an idiot light is for idiots.

BCarnage, yes sir, that is Keith Morris. I am a freelance photographer so I've had the pleasure of photographing all sorts of different people.
Regarding the tank, you should totally make the mod. I am telling you, I have never been more happy with the tank swap. My speedmaster is like a whole new bike. She is more streamlined and I am so much more comfortable on the bike. I am tall guy, 6'5''. the speedmaster tank just bowed out my legs too much. With the bonneville tank I have the ability and comfort of pressing my legs against the tank when taking corners and cruising. I reccommend the mod to anyone. I even think the thruxton tank is a bit more badass.

Looks nice...I have the Acewell 2852 http://www.acewell-meter.com/c0_1.php?pid=3&bid=11The things that I don't like are: The blue back light is too bright at night..tends to drown out the other indicators. You can see then just harder I have the fuel gauge option so that is flashing...no big deal..I am sure this the is a way to make it "think" it has full tank. I would go with the 2802 which doesn't have the fuel indicator. Nice thing is it is small. I drilled the top triple tree and mounted there. You also loss the front speedo cable which is nice. Get some rare earth magnets (Ace Hardware) for the pick up..they are a stronger magnet and makes a better pick up for the sensor

Love my Acewell. Blue backlight doesn't bother me... I think it's kinda sexy. Great instrument!

I'll have to snap a pic when I get a chance... The light in the tac IS brighter than the speedo... Just an FYI.

Can you snap a pic of your setup? I've read conflicting things regarding drilling anything into the triple tree as it can weaken the integrity of the metal.

Drilling the top tree hasn't affected anything...this is the best picture I have of it:

I use a mini speedo from Drag Specialties and the Joker Machine riser w/idiot lights. I'm very happy with the set up. Cleaned up all that bulk that Triumph loves to incorporate.

Keith Morris is bad ass! I went and saw Circle Jerks a few years back. Got to talk to him a bit, so awesome.

From memory its a Joker machine clamp, similar to the one Ive bought. They have the idiot lights in built so that when you swap tank you can transfer the connections across.
