Are ya'll sayin' they just "fall off"? Or are some of ya'll using it to tighten the new filter?
Installation is "finger tight, then 1/2-3/4 turn".
NEVER used any tool to tighten a oil filter.
I'm sure ya'll ain't, but just askin' for clarification.
I always and only hand tighten the oil filter after spreading a little oil on the rubber gasket. Yet that dang blasted K&N friggin' filter came apart without any help from me. I was lucky to save the engine!!  The 'nut' doesn't have to be there... just another thing that can fail, and FAIL is did (does). Why K&N didn't give a darn escapes me.
